QSC k8.2 VS. RCF ART 708-a mk4

Gio Alex 3:24 PM - 22 May, 2018
Sup Speaker heads,

Working on this portable/lightweight setup.

Debating on QSC k8.2 or RCF ART 708-a mk4

With RCF Sub 702-AS II

Is it ok to mix the QSC tops with the RCF subs or should I just stick with RCF all the way?

The RCFs sound better than the QSCs, in my opinion, though the QSCs are solid. Going all RCF will sound better as well as the DSP is designed for those speakers specifically. The 708/702AS will make a nice small system that will sound good and work for small-medium wedding type events, just don't try to get more out of it that what it was designed for.

Copy, thanks for the advice. I tried the QSC K8s and loved the power on them, it's too bad they don't make a lightweight sub. I'll take your advice and go RCF all the way. I've heard nothing but good things.

This is one of those rare times when i’d say go with the K8 vs keeping it all one brand. The flexibility of the original K8 for weddings is huge. The new one is just as huge. Having that RCA (now a 1/8” jack) input and a line and a mic input all in one unit can be amazing. Just take one K8 for a ceremony with a wireless mic, phone for music and or have a guitarist plug directly in. The RCF is very limited with one input. The K series is still unsurpassed in the mixer section.

That's a really good point actually.

I'm a huge fan of the RCF 705asii and just picked up a 702asii on deeply discounted sale after hearing a friend use one and thinking it was better than I expected and feeling how light it is!!! But after a few small weddings I'm starting to think I'm spoiled with larger subs. I've been debating building a false corner for it. Imagine this upside down covering the sub community.klipsch.com to effectively corner load the sub without having to have a real corner. Not sure I'll have time to build one this week but will let you know if it improves the impact of this little sub.

Good points. Yamaha DXR8s or DXR10s are another option that is a little cheaper than the QSC, has a better warranty (7 years), outstanding mixer section and likely sounds a little better too when pushed...

You guys have me reconsidering things.

The K8.2 has DSP
The DXR8 has many options for ins which is great for different applications.

The ART 708 MK4 I heard has the best sound. I know this can be subjective, but what are your thoughts?

I use 2 Yamaha dxr8s with an ev ekx15sp for my small set up and add another ekx15sp if I play for larger crowds (wedding reception and corporate gigs). I'm happy with this set up. Lightweight, nice sound and affordable. I think you'll be happy with whatever you decide. Not much difference in these small set ups. Most of it comes down to preference.

Hello,

Where i live almoust everybody uses RCF an that includes me to . Until now i only purchased big 15&12'' Top's and 15&18'' Sub's but this year i reconsidered my options and went straight ahead to build a small sound sistem for events under 100 persons . I bought two RCF ART 310 Mk4's and usd a single RCF SUB 905MK2 . I was amazed by the portability and sound this little sistem was capable of producing . I love using these small 10'' top's as monitors at bigger more power hungry events . I believe you can't go wrong with RCF but this is also about you and what your ears&eyes&wallet preferes ;)

I run bith dxr8s (with a 12” yorkville ps12s) and dxr10s (with up to a pair of cerwin vega cvx18s) and am very satisfied with tbe yamaha dxr tops. So much so, that i sold my k12s to get the 8s after using the 10s for about 6 months.

The mixer section is inferior to the qscs in some ways, but also superior in others. I especially love being able to plug stereo into one top, and route the top to the 2nd and still get stereo sound in the dxrs.

The big attraction to the k.2s for me would be the built in delay if you ever plan to use them for satellite tops or side fills.

My biggest issue with the QSC line is that they sound very harsh to me when turned up above 75%. I think the RCF (and most others in this price range) do not have the "icepick in the forehead" sound when cranking them up and let's face it, most DJs push their speakers pretty hard. It is always nice having the extra inputs & mixer controls on the amp for sure. You could always keep a single 8.2 for events or use a small mixer or DI like this one for inputs:

Another satisfied Yamaha user here with DXR10 over DXS12 Subs. I love how modular my set up is using just tops, tops and one sub tops and 2 subs or using the tops as floors wedges for band (the dxr8 don’t have this ability fyi).

The headroom and mixer section are great. The downsides would be the limited DSP and the weight of the subs.
