show camelot key notation in windows explorer

Pjbridger 9:53 PM - 6 June, 2018
Hi guys,

I am analyzing everything in serato,

when i organize my sets i use just the basic windows explorer windows,

when i set the view to details i can add "initial key" to the columns,

this shows as key signatures, Fm, Gb, etc,

Occasionally i see files that have the camelot key info, 9A, 7B, etc, in the initial key column,

But this changes to the basic key signatures when i analyze the files in serato, even though i have it set to camelot inside serrato

I want to view the files with the camelot key info in the windows explorer details view,

anyone know how to do this?

Serato doesn't write in Camelot - it writes in classical and converts to Camelot within the program.

The easiest thing to do is to overwrite the files manually into Camelot

Sort by key, highlight all the files of the same key, double click the key field of one option, manually type in the Camelot key and hit enter.

Keep in mind that if you use M4a/AAC files, that method will not work since AAC doest't actually have a dedicated key field.

This Works Thanks!

It would still be great if anyone has a batch way of doing this as it is hard doing this as it is hard doing this to a lot of tracks,

Plus adding when adding new tracks its annoying,

this sounds very scriptable, hmm...
I dont really use Keys, but if you sent me a sample of songs from your library, with the requirements - They key it is in, and the key you want it in, i could probably whip something up. I just dont know how easily it would be for you to run it on your own. I'd be coding it in python. But if you are serious about it, you could install python so that you can run python scripts.

You could just do 24 batches and your done,

In serato group by key, select the first 1A track and hold crtl +down arrow to select multiple tracks or cmd arrow on Mac when you have all the 1A selected double click in the key field of a track and type in 1A , hit enter and it will ask you if you want to make changes to all tracks selected say yes, so it will overwrite all the classical keys of the selection,

Repeat for 1b, 2a, 2b ect...

Now in Windows explorer you will have the Camelot key

As dj_soo mentions above

Thanks for the replies,

This way works for sure, but it's still inconvenient,

Unfortunately the way I create my sets I do not have all of my tracks inside serato at the same time,

Plus it also means you have to repeat the process every time you get new tracks, which for me is once a week at least,

I was looking for a way for it to automatically show up after being analyzed

i think the issue is that mixed in key have a patent on the camelot system so serato cant write to it but can convert classical tags to it,

you could always buy mixed in key but that program is shit now that serato and other software do it for free
dj_soo 7:58 PM - 7 June, 2018
serato pays a license fee to Mixed in Key in order to use the camelot keys in the software.

there was a thread on mixed in key that was never really answered about MIK trying to claim ownership of the camelot system/ circle of fifths but it was never really answered and they shut it down

I actually do own mixed in key,

i tried to re analyze the files with MIK after but the tags still remain as key signatures,

and if you analyse them with MIK before you still need to analyze them in Serato,

So i always end up with the key signitures

In MIK there is a option to save as camelot 1a ect..

Then in serato disable the detect key in the analyse options untick detect key
