If it’s the 13” MacBook Pro they have integrated graphics which is terrible for video use.

I don't see anyone posting 'LOL, Mac' ? Is it only Windows users that get that?
Even with all that ram, and even with a late 2014 machine, i7, integral Nvidia GT750m video playback on my Macbook was hit or miss. The main reason I dumped Mac was a lack of USB sockets. I like to unlink the video levels from the audio, and map them to an external MIDI controller, but the only way I could do that was via a hub, and that caused all kinds of hell.
Tried MixEmergency too, but I personally hated it. Not worth $200 IMHO. And didn't really bring anything to the table on my machine.
Switched to an old Dell laptop, win 7 pro, 8gb ram, integral Intel graphics and video plays fine on it with all the various updates and tweaks suggested here. Windows 10, that's a different matter - it's dreadful.
Serato isn't a great software experience on some machines. Takes a lot of screwing around with video to get it stable, and even then I get crashes occasionally. This evening the video window crashed because Apple Quicktime popped up a update notice. Seems anything Apple sucks in my world.

I'm using a 15" MacBook Pro, I also go a message that said the developer (Serato) needs to update their software , may not be compatible ... etc.

I think the Serato Video plug in is still 32bit, it's just a nag but hopefully they revamp it before the next macOS or it won't work.
