just got a gig at a strip club

Dj Sire 4:12 PM - 6 March, 2008
wow, i didnt know there was so much mcing to do.

Im a club dj / turntabalist. any tips? I already know not to scratch much.
and not to play stripper songs? ie in love with a stripper.

the guy told me to talk up the girls? can i get some examples?

also what music should i be leaning more towards.

when i did my interview i played mostly uptempo ie pitbull and ciara and reggae
around 120 ish bpm.
djbriguy 4:41 PM - 6 March, 2008
stop taking gigs that you don't know how to do.
deejay barber 5:03 PM - 6 March, 2008
its corny, but most of the Strip Club DJ/MC's out here sound like they have the exagerated Radio host voice. "Ladies And Gentle, The Cabaret Lounge is proud to bring to the Stage.......Cum Dumpster" etc

I think the girls will let you know what they want when they are on stage. At least that is what it looks like.
G-L0GIX 5:15 PM - 6 March, 2008
Play Hillbilly music perferably songs with Banjo's
Logisticalstyles 5:27 PM - 6 March, 2008
Things I hear most strip club DJs say

"If you sippin you better be tippin"
"Show some love to Chocolate(or whoever)"
"5 for the bottom 10 for top. Who's gonna make it happen fellas?"

Just go out to alot of other spots and listen out for the key phrases. It also depends on if it's black or white spot.
Kadilac 5:29 PM - 6 March, 2008
What I would do is REALLY get to KNOW the GIRLS!
but really, find out what they like and what music or songs represent their personality or the image they want to portray. I would take songs or even videos that have hot chicks playing certain parts and have the girls reinact the characters, that's what they're doing anyway, just acting like the chicks they see on tv. If you could come up with themes and customs for them you would be golden. Most songs are about girls anyway. I got a playlist I'll send later. Is this an upscale "just look don't touch" or ghetto "anything goes" club?
bourbonstmc 5:58 PM - 6 March, 2008
The (synonym of pretty, sexy, or hot) (name #1) is on her way down to be with you. Ask her about that table dance or trip to the VIP room. And now let's welcome to the mainstage the (synonym of pretty, sexy, or hot) (name #2).

{#2 does her 1st dance}

(name #3) up next. And now, one more chance to get with the (synonym of pretty, sexy, or hot) (name #2) on the mainstage.

[#2 does her 2nd dance]

The (synonym of pretty, sexy, or hot) (name #2) is on her way down to be with you...

REPEAT x infinity

it is upscale. not a hole in the wall.

bingo. it's an easy gig if you can talk. don't need to worry about mixing or anything. last time i was at a strip club (mid-level, not some hole in the wall) the guy literally seemed like he had an itunes on shuffle. he played fallout boy followed by richie spice's- youths dem cold. it seemed strange and completely un-sexy to have a girl stripping to a song about social ills and the problems of the lower class.
bourbonstmc 6:18 PM - 6 March, 2008
Good general rule: song #1 upbeat, song #2 slow.
Kadilac 6:19 PM - 6 March, 2008
sorry, man my playlist is really GHETTO! Webbie "give me that p_ssy" that type of stuff! Sorry man
Logisticalstyles 7:09 PM - 6 March, 2008
I have noticed that the DJs at upscale clubs talk less. The DJs at Ghetto strip clubs talk shit all through the songs.

DJ Young Herrera 8:08 PM - 6 March, 2008
The girls are supposed to tell you what song they want you to play for them.

Then, if you do a good job for them, they are supposed to tip you out at the end of the night.

By they way, you should have asked the owner to clarify before you took the gig.

Pics or you don't work there...haha.
Logisticalstyles 8:40 PM - 6 March, 2008
Yeah, when I went to interview for a strip club the owner told me that I would probably only pick every 3 or 4th song. The rest is up to the dancers.
J_Static 8:44 PM - 6 March, 2008
^ haha @ bri & young herrera!

Rule #1: don't touch! Period! Unless u wanna loose ur job and/or the feeling in that hand! Regardless how "friendly" these skanks become, no touchy touchy!

I did a stint in an all nude strip club in Tampa FL! It was alright, the girls know the game & as soon as they figure u out, ur OWNED! Luckily for me I knew one of them before she started stripn for college money, most of them are kewl, others are bitches!

Rule# 2: Don't come in here askn for assistance acknowledging u've never done this type of gig & then hate on another forum member for calling u out! U admitted to it, so take the criticism like a man!

Also understand that as much as "they like u," you can be replaced at anytime! Period! Owners & GM's of stripclubs only worry about two things: their establishments cashflow & the cops!

I've only been to a strip club 2 times.

The first time I was really drunk and don't remember the DJ, I was a little distracted (duh!)

The 2nd time I was a designated driver and recall lots of cheasy 80's rock music. I entered the place with a group of other dudes. We were dressed up with ties and he made an annoucement that Duran Duran just entered the building.

DJ Art Pumpin Payne 4:27 PM - 7 March, 2008
I did a stint as a fill DJ for a Strip Club back in the day, thought it would be the GREATEST JOB in the world, get paid to spin while looking at Titties but it sucked.

One thing to remember, learn the "game" and remember it is a job.

ALL the girls have attitudes. You have to deal with the interaction, beefs, and them all getting their periods at the same time just like the House mom.

If you get paid on Tip Out, watch your money. You have just became a Indoor pimp, and in the words of Wayne Brady - "Does DJ Sire have to Choke a Bitch". If you are not up on your loot, they may stiff you,

As far as the music, do your thing but keep the rotation tight. DJ Godfather does a Strip bar here in Detroit on Monday nights and has a MC to do the rotation for him so he can do his thing on the tables. It is more of a "time thing" than a song because he plays records so fast.

Most of all have fun and keep your head up.

haha its a damn strip club for crying out loud, why dont you try goin to othr strip clubs and seeing what type of Music they play call it...... field research. Rock usually make a Girl Dance good
RonBlaze 5:51 PM - 7 March, 2008
This is long, but i have to chime in....

I worked at MANY strip clubs before, from the most grimey to the most upscale in New York and so I know about SinCity. It IS upscale, and nice in appearance despite the seedy location..........BUT ---->50 Dollars for 8 Hours?

I saw the ad on Craigslist and started to audition but decided not to. Yes, a little money is better than no money (especially if you have to pay rent) but Sire should have known or researched what hes getting into. They are going to screw you seriously since you dont know the "game", or even how to work and spin music at a strip club. They eat him alive.

Like Art Pumpin Payne said, it does suck once you getover the whole titty almost naked thing. There is a LOT to deal with and you literally have to be a pimp. If you are not a pimp and canot influence people in real life..this isnt for you. You have to pimp the club, the girls, yourself, the customers and management...and for 50 bucks? 8 Hours? YOU ARE NOT GUARANTEED TIPS. The girls WILL stiff you especially if your have no strip club experience...the girls can tell a newbie. They dont care about "your music"....they will gass your head up saying they like you, but keep in mind you CAN & WILL be replaced.

J Static said some good advice too..dont touch...leave the girls alone. Be friendly but keep your dick in your pants no matter what. Im telling you from experience, leave the job at the job and that includes the women.

I was lucky to have 2 strip club jobs where tip-outs were collected from the girls by the manager. I knew management and they looked out. The rest of the clubs i worked at, I had to hunt down, chase and extort these girls out of money. Management didnt care, and in this case they ONLY guarentee you 50 dollars.

If the girls tell you they didnt make money, and have their pimp or peoples waiting outside after the club closes theres nothing you can do but walk home with 50 bucks after 8 hours. Good luck.
DJ Lil Vito 6:11 PM - 7 March, 2008
I'll throw in my two cents here. Much like Art and the OP, I did "fill-in" at a local strip club when I was broke as shit three years ago.

1 - They had their own computer system with music on board. The club used Winamp for music. Easy enough.

2 - It's all about being an MC and using the mic!

3 - You honestly get sick of looking at tits.

My duties at the club were:

- Play music for the girls (most have songs they like and will tell you what to play)
- Be an enthusiastic MC
- Inform the girls via intercom who's up next and make sure they're ready. If they aren't ready I needed to notify management to straighten them out - drugs and alcohol are always an issue with these girls and it wasn't uncommon for us to have to send girls packing
- Monitor security
- Call the girls via intercom for lap and table dances
- Monitor table/lab dances via security cameras

Overall if was a fun job, and I'd do it again for the stories alone. Yes, you will have the chance to tap some stripper ass - be careful though! Yes, you will have the opportunity to go "party" with the girls - again, be careful! For every nice stripper that's just trying to earn some extra money you'll run into a drugged out glorified prostitute...

Some not-so-fun experiences were dealing with customers that got touchy, wanted to fight, or guys that creamed themselves while getting dances. The place I was at was considered an upscale gentlemens club too. But music wise, it's easy... just be prepared to be more than just a DJ.
DJ Lil Vito 6:20 PM - 7 March, 2008
In response to RonBlaze - we were tipped out at the end of the night by the girls, not the manager. Pay from the club was $15/hr. Most nights each girl would tip me about $75 with five girls on each shift. I'm not sure what standard tip out is, but the girls at my club were real cool and didn't seem to rip me off. Maybe because I was good at what I did and most of the strippers/dancers were acquaintances from my residency - who knows? As long as you're street smart and can hold your own you should be able to handle the job fine.
RonBlaze 6:39 PM - 7 March, 2008
Hey Vito, I have had good experiences too.
I was just warning about the downfalls of certain clubs and precautins a DJ may need to take. A guarantee of 50 dollars for 8 hours simply wasnt enough for me to audition at SinCity. I wish Sire luck as I speaking from many years of strip club experience. The more upscale the club the less problems one will have.
RonBlaze 6:41 PM - 7 March, 2008
I have had guarantees of 150 dollars for 6 hours, and that didnt include tips so again, I decided not to audition. It is a very nice place....I have been there for 2 bachelor parties.

You've been there 3 weeks - we need stories!

So if your aren't someone who already isn't brain dead thanks for all the helpful posts on here and not being a troll

I've been thinking about trying this, but just seems too shady. You getting paid through tip out from the girls? That sounds better, especially if it's a night with lots of girls working. Only as long as it's the manager collecting it and not you. Can't imagine having to chase down strippers for money. And if the manager is shady, damn he could cheat you on the tip outs too.
Tmaz3 11:02 AM - 19 January, 2015
From what I seen, where im starting the girls tip out when getting off stage most often, but that just may be at the club im starting at Thursday. Either way though you control when and how often they get on stage so you control how much of a opportunity they have to make the most money, so if the don't tip the don't strip.

Every experienced strip club DJ in this thread is correct regarding the *basic* rules for strip club DJs. I, too, have been called in to audition for a DJ position in a strip club. Because I have been a dancer, I know the protocol, know how to avoid drama, and know what makes the girls happy to tip out. If they make money, you generally make money. **Generally** would be the keyword, there. So guys....how would yall feel about a female DJ in your favorite strip club? Do you think it would be any more or less hot to have a hot female DJ talking up the girls the same way a guy would? In my experience, the customers loved it when we would do a girl-play show on stage (we just pretended to be lipstick lesbians, and the guys never failed to tip us extremely well)....but I don't know how well that translates to the DJ booth....what do yall think? Can a female MC pull it off?

I think you have seen My Cousin Vinny too many times and you actually think your Vinny. I just heard Tyra reply to you in Marisa Tomet's Voice. "Well my motha was a strippa, all my sistas were strippas, all my aunts on my mothas side were strippas. I worked as a strippa in my mas club. I stripped, I did lap dances, I worked the champagne room.

Well, this was super-productive! At least I now know I don't want to work with other DJs. You folks are 100% as catty as any dancer I ever met--thus my hasty exodus from that side of the industry (it's my apparently unbelievable aversion to drama). ~Peace

They're not all that way. There just seems to be an over abundance of them hanging out on this particular forum. I don't think some of the people who make the most comments here have ever held a record in their hands. Note that many of them don't even have a an avatar, much less a profile. Are they legit DJs? Who knows..?

There are some good guys and some real professionals here also. So rather than throw the baby out with the bathwater, just take it with a grain of salt.

On the other hand, to answer your question... people by nature, prefer males in any seat of authority, including the DJ position. I'm sure it could be made to work, and the right girl could pull it off... but from my considerable experience (which does include some strip club work) I would think that would go double for a SC MC.

For what it's worth that's just my honest opinion.

So I have been doing strip joints for 20 plus years. It is all I do. I am once again auditioning potential DJs. This is my theory. You either have this type of charisma or you will never be a DJ in da Club. First and foremost. You are being payed to throw a party. So do that. U r da rockstar there. Second is to never get too forked up. Always remember to handle yourself in a professional manner. Third always have an excellent relationship to your godesses. Even ur divas. I love all my girls. They pay my bills. I work my ass off for them. Never judge and always respect the naked hustle. And be on ur a game. The whole stripclub thing is a fantasy and it's fantastic!!! But always have fun. U control the flow of the party.
DJ Lightout 8:02 AM - 20 April, 2016
And u work for the girls. Ur not their boss. And if a club says so then leave.

I understand this within the context of your immediate social environment

But more broadly and indeed politically this is not true

You got hired because they liked you, you already passed the personality test. Just be yourself.

As far as music ask the dancers for a couple songs from each genre they can dance too and go from there.

You want songs that keep them happy but at the same time need to keep customers in the club spending money. Feel out your crowd, too much of one style of music will get patrons to leave. Mix it up
deezlee 4:50 AM - 13 June, 2017
As a customer I'd say play all extended remixes.

Question For All you Seasoned Expierenced Strip Club DJs, currently discussing DJ oppurtunity with managament at Club up in Valley(Phx AZ) Live bout 40 minites away. Expierence wise only played a handful of times as Guest DJ where its Themed Nights(ie Grown N Sexy/Latin Ladies Nights/Throwback-Flashback) at a few other establishments and pay was in 150.00-250.00 range 4-5 hours. Now For a Designated night at this establishment(sundays) pay is 50.00 plus 10.00 a girl. 1. What does that mean? 2. Is it worth it for 8 hours? Thanks
Sphinx Sounds 5:14 PM - 29 May, 2018
Your answers are already above- ream them. $50 plus tip outs. The issue may be collecting those tip outs. Also, a DJ setup in a strip club isn't like home, two decks + mixer. It's some ugly GUI that makes zero intuitive sense. Would be complicated if under the influence...lol.

I auditioned once, and I didn't like the setup. Zero base + 20 tip outs.
Sphinx Sounds 5:17 PM - 29 May, 2018
A strip club DJ is not just playing music- you're managing several stages AND girls. Making sure they are ready, etc. IMO it's not worth it unless it's close to home and you can deal with their system.
DJ Dro. B 9:34 PM - 29 May, 2018
Wow, Congrats. It sound like it could be interesting.

Based off being at the strip clubs myself and from part of a DJ Drama Documentary, the dancers take the songs being played REAL SERIOUSLY cause that how they getting that bread. I don't have too many solid suggestions other than make sure you play songs that they clappin ass to and dudes throwing dollars.
