hi.
i am considering purchasing video-sl 1.1 to use on my rane ttm56. i know video-sl was previously only compatible with ttm57, but i heard somewhereyou cannot mix /scratch video on other mixers without a midi controller? Is this true (i'm not sure exactly what a midi controller is or what it does)? if i get video-sl 1.1 and use a ttm56 can i scratch/mix video/audio with the mixer's crossfader or is ther something else i need to get(i.e will cross fader on ttm56 mixer cut between videos on deck 1 & 2 and will volume faders fade video on deck 1 & 2; the same way scratch live works on it only using video files)?
thanks

No, with the 56 you cannot fade the videos. You will either need a mixer with midi fader which you can assign in Video SL to do this. Or you will need a midi controller to map these functions to.

So your 56 faders will do audio and the midi controller faders will control the videos.

is the Numark M1 USB Mixer assignable by midi to mix/scratch videos with video-sl. not sure if this has a midi crossfader? think the M-Audio X-Session Pro would work? does anyone know if these would alow you to scratch video using crossfader with video-sl 1.1? also does anyone know any other cheap scratch midi mixers compatible with video-sl 1.1?
thanks

The M-Audio X-Session Pro should work. But again, you will then have one fader for audio on your mixer and another for Video on the M-Audio X-Session Pro

Is there a way to mix/scratch audio and video at the same time without the ttm57? I want to mix/scratch audio/video but don't want to have to shell out on a new ttm57 when I already have a ttm56. Is there a way to mix audio and video at the same time inexpensively with the set up I have? I thought the m-audio was a cheap solution but u siad it will only mix the video. Not the audio.

Not with the 56. It does not have a midi assignable crossfader. You would need to get a whole new mixer with a midi assignable fader.

is there anyone you could recommend at lowish prices?

Behringer makes a cheap mixer that is Midi assignable I believe. This might be it? :::: www.djstore.com

think i will purchase a BEHRINGER DDM 4000. just want to check before i purchase this mixer is compatible with scratch live. also would this mixer work with video sl 1.1 more or less the same as the ttm57 does. i.e can mix/scratch video and audio both simeltaniously and you don't have to assign a seperate fader for each one? i just want to scratch video and while im scratching the video the audio will be scratched too at the same time (as i believe the ttm57 does). thanks for your help. keith

basically will the crossfader on the BEHRINGER DDM 4000 be able to control the audio on deck 1 & 2 and the video on deck 1 & 2 at the same time so i can scratch audio and video in one movement? or can you only scratch audio and video seperatly?
Thanks
Keth

in the BEHRINGER DDM 4000 manual says the following about configuring the crossfader as a midi controller:

Particularities of the crossfader:
It is not possible to assign the stereo channels of the crossfader when the crossfader section is defined as a controller. The assign push buttons are inoprative. The routing behaves is if the crossfader is deactivated: the signals are directly fed to the mixer's sum.

I'm not sure if this relates to what i was talking about above as i don't really understand what it means.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

With the DDM4000, you can only use the crossfader as MIDI, or audio. Not both at the same time. So, you could only scratch the "audio" part, or the "video" part, but not both at the same time.

so is the only mixer that will mix audio and video simultaniously the ttm 57? There are no cheaper alternatives?

so sounds like ssl needs a switch or button (like the reverse deck switch or somethin)in the program to link the faders together in the program or maybe something like the checkbox (use cursor keys to fade video)in plugin area of ssl should work its done that way in vdj/numark cue and pcvj.not sue how ots does their video.

other than an update with those sugestions numark has a video mxer with two crossfaders but i cant see using two faders.lol

The Pioneer DJM 800 also has a midi fader that will allow you to mix and scratch audio and video at once. But this is not much cheaper than the 57 of course.

And yes, you can use the arrow keys to simply fade the video from one side to the next - but obviously not to mix and scratch.

So is there any other mixer besides the TT57SL or DJM 800 that will work for both audio and video simultaneous scratching and fading?
For some reason, there's no definite answer being posted. If anyone can tell me offline that's fine too. I'm really trying to crossover into the video realm as an option, but not ready to get the 57 just yet. I want to make sure all bases are covered before I put that money out there.

Here's my setup:

2 Denon 3500 CD Players
Denon 1500s Mixer
SL1
Video Sl
Korg Nano Kontrol (Midi)

Laptop Info:
ASUS PC
4GB RAM (8GB Upgradable)
Windows Vista 64Bit
Intel Core2 Duo 2.13GHz
Video: 1GB NVidia GeForce 9600M GS

From what I know and have researched, there are no other mixers other than the DJM 800 that will allow you to assign the crossfader to crossfade video and cut in-cut out the music at the same time.

Maybe someone else out there does know of another mixer?

Thanks for the feedback Rafael. I might just have to test drive a few mixers I've seen that may be compatible. The guys at Sam Ashe and Guitar Center are usually pretty good about that.

Any other feedback or ideas will be greatly appreciated.

I'm actually going to see my boy get busy at Tonic in Times Square (7th Ave btw 48th & 49th). If there's anybody that wants to come through and check it out, we're there video mixing from 6pm to 10pm every Friday. Ask for DJ Eclipse (Thats me) and we'll have a drink.
