Hi ericklee,

Try this:

1) Ensure Scratch Live is closed.
2) Connect the SL 1 to your computer.
3) Click the Windows Start button and go to All Programs -> Serato -> ScratchLIVE
4) In there you will see the Update Drivers program, click and run this.
5) The drivers for the SL 1 will now be installed.

Hello Michael R,

I have a the same issue with SL1. I have own a Toshiba Satellite a505-s6980 and the specs are Windows 7 64bit / Intel Core 2 T6600 / 4 gigs ram ddr2. I have tried your method of installing the drivers but I am still having no luck. I am also using version 1.9.2 of serato. Is it that some laptops work, and some don't?

Thank you for your time. Help please

I hate to be off-topic....
But waxtax are you the radio DJ from 102.7??
If so YOU are one of the main reasons that I spent my college refund check on some DJ equipment.... That was about 2 years ago.....Would you like to be a mentor to an up and coming DJ?

Hi Waxtax-n Dre,

It should work on all laptops. Are you getting an error message when you run the update drivers program?
Waxtax-n Dre 8:10 PM - 22 December, 2009
Hello again Michael, I really appreciate you getting back with me,

I did use the update driver program without the usb plugged in. The driver installed correctly but when I went to my device manager. The sl1 was in the usb area (like it suppose to be) but it had the exclamation mark next to it.

This is my buddies computer. My windows 7 works fine. So, this really through me for a loop. He just brought this computer. So, didn't know if they were doing something different on new computers.

Hi DJ M-80!! I'm gonna send you a message

Hey Waxtax-n Dre,

If you run the update driver program with the hardware not connected it won't install any drivers. If the SL 1 driver has the exclamation mark icon this means there is something wrong with it - does it give you the option to see more info?

Hello Mr Michael,

Ok, I tried plugging the box in while install the update driver program and the driver said it stalled correctly and I still have an exclamation point next to the sl1 icon.

I was able to select different options like update, disable, uninstall, scan for hardware changes and properties. I have tried all but still nothing. Mind you.... I just redone my own computer with windows 7 and everything worked fine. I am wondering if the usb is not giving enough power to boot the serato box. I will work on powering the box and I will let you know the outcome.

Thanks again, please let me know if you come up with something.

It sounds like for whatever reason the driver is not functioning correctly. What happens if you select uninstall for the current SL 1 driver (with the yellow warning icon) and then re-install the driver, any luck?
Waxtax-n Dre 8:27 PM - 27 December, 2009
Mr Michael,

I did try your method and when it uninstalled. I took the usb cable out and then put it back in. In the device manager, it showed up in other devices and then after a few seconds it returned to the usb area (automatically) as rane sl1 (!)

when I go to the sl1 icon and try to uninstall. To my knowledge, it is just uninstalling the serato hardware and not the actual driver. Is there a way to uninstall the actual driver? and does suppose to move itself from other devices to the usb area? thought that to be quiet strange.

waxtax-n Dre,
sounds like you might have the wrong drivers installed, do this.
1. in device manager delete the SL 1 device from usb devices
2. delete c:\windows\system32\drivers\seratousb.sys
3. unplug the SL 1
4. plug the SL 1 back in
5. run the driver updater tool

Thanks nobspangle, that's perfect :)

Waxtax-n Dre, please give that a go and let me know how it goes :)

Hello Gentlemen, Thank you both for your time and patience.

Well, here is my story.... I did try the method 1-5 and still came up negative....
I tried 2 different things. The 1-5 method did not work. When I plugged the sl1 back in, it did notice it as the Rane sl1 (!) and then I went to the driver update tool and got nothing.

Another thing I tried: I deleted the drivers from the drivers folder and then I uninstalled the sl1 in the device manager. when I unplugged the sl1 and plugged back in. It installed the drivers automatically without me updating it. I thought this to be kind of strange....

Well, we are up for any thing now. Take computer back, System Restore... Thanks again for your time.

Bummer, I was hoping that would fix it! A system restore will probably do it, but let's try something a lil' less drastic first ;)

If you open device manager, right click on the Rane SL 1 driver and look at the device status - what error message does it give you? does it give you an error code?
Wild Child 1:50 AM - 23 January, 2010
Im having the exact same issues. It says "This device cannot start (Code 10)"
My troubles are exactly the se same except I bought a new computer thinking it would fix my problems and I got a whole nother set of them. Any help would be great.

I'm sorry I have been gone so long. We kind of lost hope in getting this computer to work.

Yes, I did get an error code (code 52) not sure what that means

I attached a picture of what it looks like on the computer. I am still willing to try a restore. After all, it is a brand new computer.

Thanks again.

Hey Waxtax-n Dre,

An error code 52 means that an unsigned driver is installed, and Windows 64bit does not allow unsigned drivers to function. The bizarre thing is is that our drivers are signed, so I don't know why you are getting this error message :-/

Sorry to get you to do this again but can you try deleting the driver, however this time when you go to run the Update Drivers tool can you right click on it and select "Run as administrator". Does that work?
Waxtax-n Dre 8:11 PM - 5 February, 2010
Mr. Michael,

I tried that also.... No go... LOL!!

Anymore suggestions up your sleeve? I am a computer tech also and I a drawing blanks. I guess we will be patient enough to wait for the windows 7 drivers.

Mean while... I will try a full restore. After all, it is a brand new laptop.

Thanks again

Bummer, I was really hoping that would do it! Well I don't have anything else to suggest at the moment I'm afraid, if you're happy to do a full restore then I'd suggest giving that a go. Please let me know how it goes :)
