Random play for offline player

I basically use serato as my music player when offline. It would be nice to have a random play selection as there is no current way to make tracks random.
It doesn't have to be there during online playing as I know this is the main reason its not included
cheers

SSL isn't really built to be a music player in that way, why not just open your library into itunes?

i like to use ssl, for the reason being as i listen I can move to folders, arrange, tag etc

- Because I don't use my itunes library in SSL and therefor I can not make crates for serato
- iTunes doesn't know how to set cue-points and loop-markers
Actually, the offline player was exactly built to be a music player, the idea that was expressed by serato somewhere (don't remember) was they hoped that the offline player would replace your music player. To make it easier to prepare setlists, cue-points, comments etcetera.
And I actually use it this way. I use it instead of iTunes, I have the same library everywhere I go on whatever system since my database is on the hard-drive itself. and it's a perfectly good music player, it supports tagging, artwork, it doesn't eat too much resources, it's fast. and while simply listening to music while working for example it allows me to get new ideas while the music is playing, possibly set a cue-point or loop marker here and there or start building a new setlist with good stuff I hear while working. It makes the process much more spontaneous and don't have to dedicate time to it, it makes maintaining your library feel less like "work"
so yeah,
+1

Yes very good, it allows you to come up with ideas when you hear songs etc, maybe something you havn't heard for a while, set up spontaneous cue points etc.
I love the offline player but I have to constantly use itunes just for the fact of having random play

Now that there's smart crates, if they added shuffle/random play to the offline player as well, it would definitely leave me with almost no reasons to use iTunes. And would make it easier to set up cues/loops as you're listening, like Evil_Banana said. Cuz a lot of times I'll be listening in iTunes on shuffle and then open up Serato to add something I thought of.

Always a bit... strange, how a thread that hasn't been touched for months and is probably considered burried on the bottom of the pile, suddenly gets revived by new supporters :o)

Sometimes at 3 or 4 in the morning when there are stragglers at the party, you just want to have Serato play tunes while you walk away and catch your breath.

I use it as well!
Sure, we can sort our tracks by tag fields other than artists name so that it would be randomized in a way, but i'd rather leave that alone.

+1 except I would also like to it have it in online.
I'm DJing a party and it is generally understood that I will provide background music for the first 1.5 hours then start spinning and playing dance music till the end of the night. I will build up a playlist (sometimes in PREPARE window sometimes in its own crate) that is appropriate for that time and place and just let it autoplay for the first 1.5 hours. But if I added three reggae songs then five dowwntempo hip-hop songs the will be in the playlist all together. So how do I shuffle them? I have to do something dumb like sort by track name or track length so the three reggae songs don't play all in a row.
DJs have a need to use serato to autoplay tracks from time to time and this would make it very convenient.

***** +2 *****
Rane/Serato support, we need a random play/shuffle! I'm sure it costs nothing to implement this.
DJ Damn Dixon, my itunes files are AAC and my Serato's are mp3. I spent a lot of time making sure the 2 never meet, and I would like to keep it that way.
I have over 100K songs, and I keep it on random when using ipod/itunes because my musical tastes vary from Abba to Zulema. When I hear something that inspires me, I add it to a folder in itunes, or 'rate it' on my ipod (or write it down with a pen, but I'm showing my age).
If Serato had a random function, I could add it to whatever crate(s) I felt relevant. Or delete it so that crappy music never reached my listeners ears.

I am quite surprised that Serato doesn't have this feature. Only just added my tracks to the program today after owning it for 12 months! A random buttom would be fantastic, with cross fading as well like Windows Media Player. I can't see this being a great feat of development work at all. Plus I'd then use this as default player.

Here is why I would vote HELL NO for this feature. I walked into a club the other day and the "DJ" was playing one song after another using the off-line version of ScratchLive. He asked me if I knew how to set up a playlist for him.
When I asked where his box was he stated that he doesn't own one...all the owner cares about is that his DJ's uses Serato!
Multiple fails on many levels here.

if people are going to use serato as an offline dj playlist, they're going to do it shuffle or no shuffle
such an easy feature to implement

I want to use Serato as my definitive music player so that I can add tunes to crates as I come across them. I have thousands and thousands of songs and would REALLY APPRECIATE a shuffle mode to help me listen to tunes randomly ....

+1 on having this feature.
I also want to use the shuffle for when selecting songs on the fly. Being able to shuffle through the library (many times in a row, maybe) can help unearth some songs I haven't heard in a while or are lost within my library.
Should be easy enough to implement, please do this Serato!

Because there's no development in Scratch Live and never will be again as it's discontinued software (and has been for a very long time now).
Opening this in the Serato DJ feature suggestions area will help it gain traction and also be noticed.
