Who is going to keep it 1.9.2 and lower?

djchope 10:18 PM - 15 April, 2010
To be honest i don't need no 3 decks,i don't need FX
just give me 2 reliable working decks

whos with me?haaaa
DouggyFresh 10:26 PM - 15 April, 2010
Really 1.9 is really too low if you got a big crowd... You'd probably want the volume closer to 8 or 9 for a packed house.

Just kidding. I ran 2.0 with VSL last night (PC). I'm not too impressed with the performance, but I've had issues with the newest 1.2 VSL beta being slower than the 1.1.1 VSL. I have my fingers crossed it'll be all better soon.

I'm staying with 1.9.2 for now.
Works just fine for me and my 12s

I don't think I need 2.0 yet.
Haven't seen any features that I would be needing or using much that I can't do in 1.9.2

Nice thread chope...I wondered the same thing.

smart crates make me happy (no misquote). and don't tell me to use itunes... because i have to plug in my video drive into others laptops at times.

I was playing with 2.0 the other night and thinking "this has gone way beyond vinyl emulation." As such, I think I'll use 2.0 for the fancy new features when I need them, but run an earlier, leaner version for times I know I'll be doing more straightforward DJing with my decks.
DJMark 1:55 AM - 16 April, 2010
I don't see 2.0 being any less reliable than any of the 1.9.X versions, and all the "fancy new features" can be selectively shut off if you don't want them.

I also really like that 2.0 finally stopped using that ugly "super-bold" font for the song titles on the decks. Not as fond of the fonts they started using within the circles though...I liked that much better the old way.
Kenny Q 2:02 AM - 16 April, 2010
Does anyone know if the new version of VSL works with version 1.9.2?
DJ Alkemy 2:03 AM - 16 April, 2010
Ill be using 2.0 strictly for the option of the big artwork display...Im so used of flipping through records and identifying tracks by their LP covers it might give me a little nostalgia kick to when DJ'ing was much simpler when Im looking through my SL crates haha
djchope 2:27 AM - 16 April, 2010
one thing that bothers me about 2.0 that when you are in internal you cant click that 1X button to automatically take the tempo slider to 0.
I also think it looks fugly, i might use it when the bridge comes..i even doubt im using the bridge actually..im happy mixing it up old school
xplycyt 3:47 AM - 16 April, 2010
only using 2.0 for the different library layouts - prefer seeing more of the library then two circles taking up half the screen. in the absence of the post-fader echo, I doubt I'll ever use the effects - mixer does all of that with ease.

no real issues with stability...as yet!
a DJ 9:06 AM - 16 April, 2010
I like the fx in 2, I use a midi keyboard so its not annoying to use lol. and yeah, all the new layouts are nice. I started using mp3tag so I can keep artwork on the files instead of getting rid of them when removing id3 tags in itunes.
Dj-M.Bezzle 1:27 PM - 16 April, 2010
Im def rockin the 2.0, the library view modes free up ALOT more space for me to see my full library which is a lifesave, smartcrates rock (though sub smart crates are a MUST) and ive quadrupled my effects for tha free. gotta love that. 3 decks is awsome too, i like having a dedicated scratch deck do dont have to go flipping through crates for my sample then back to find a song
DJ DisGrace 2:09 PM - 16 April, 2010
I'm sticking with 2.0 because:

- view without waveform is PURE GOLD!!! Loving the extra library space
- able to have my video controls and a prepare window, and my library available at the same time
- 2.0 can actually tag videos that were "corrupted" in earlier versions of SSL
- the settings on my sp6 sampler are saved properly

I haven't even had time to try any other features.... I may need to buy an SL3 now for 3 decks
ral 2:26 PM - 16 April, 2010
just upgrade to 2.0

then UNSELECT the plugin-in you don't need ( EFX, smartcrates, vsl, etc.). and when you're ready to use it, just tick that box

case closed!

2.0 Very stable and fun to use.

I do prefer that when you sort by BPM for the Artists to alphabetized NOT the Title of the Song. Also the color tag sort changed the colors around. I think the darker colors used to show first then down on to the lighter colors.

even if the artist was alphatized you still woulda dropped a random track....what if the artist was alphabetatized and the next track was by LMFAO or something, what you need is to have some smartcrates set up or a browse set to genre, that would prevent it from being to out there if you do mess up

I hear ya, but at times I'd rather not have to worry about reaching to type out too much in the search box. When thinking of a song and I can't decipher as to what DJ named it his special name or refix name or mashed up name, but I do know the Artist and I know the BPM. I was used to seeing this for example:

BPM ARTIST SONG
97 Ace of Base I Saw The Sign
97 BEYONCE Single Ladies Edit
97 BEYONCE Single Ladies JDub Remix
97 BEYONCE Single Ladies Vs. Come To Me
97 BEYONCE Single Ladies X-Rated Remix
97 BEYONCE Single Ladies YZ Remix

Now I See this when I do an All BPM Sort in 2.0

BPM ARTIST SONG
97 DJ Webstar 5000
97 Vick Da Baron Adjust the Base
97 Outkast ATLiens
97 Britney Spears Baby One More Time
97 JD Nate Dogg Ballin Outa Control

Adjusting and change is not a problem...just stating what I thought was a very User Friendly feature when doing a sort by BPM. Not gonna lie...i'm a numbers person and can probably tell you every BPM of all my tracks. But if I sorted by BPM and had to then scroll down the Song titles alphabetized, I would leave out an 'A' or a 'THE' or a 'I'm' or a 'GET' in my thought process of searching for the title. I'd be in the 'L's looking for a song called 'Low', can't find it. Then after that, I'd go to the Search Tool to search by Flo Rida only to realize my customers have brainwashed me into thinking it's called Low and not Get Low. When I was previously able to sort by BPM 128, Artist Flo Rida would be alphabetized and his three tracks or remix's I have in that BPM range would be right there for me to see.

Been able to sort the old way since whatever version I had in '05...but it will take some getting used to. I'll check out Smart Crates.
Dj-M.Bezzle 9:39 PM - 16 April, 2010

I definitely liked the BPM sort a lot better when it was by artist. I had also become very used to it working that way.

If Serato felt the need to change it, they should have at least allowed users the option to have it sort the "old" way.

1.9.2 is too low for me. I'm sticking with 1.9.8
2.0 Crashed on me an hour and 15 minutes into my set tonight. Thank god I bought some back up CDs to play while I got it straight. The only thing I'm going to miss from 2.0 is being able to hit the space bar to toggle to library view. That was a pretty nifty feature.
Discobee 4:50 PM - 18 April, 2010
^^I didn't even know there was a 1.9.8! But yeah, I'm a <2.0 guy. I don' t need effects in the software, nor do I need three decks for weekend gigs, and the 2.0 GUI is just unappealing to look at.

"Two turntables (or CDJs) and a mixer (with onboard effects)!"
Logisticalstyles 7:35 PM - 18 April, 2010
I might be wrong, but I thought it was. Either way, I meant the version directly before 2.0.
DJ Doug Collins 8:19 PM - 18 April, 2010
I'm going to "downgrade" from 2.0. I've run it the last 2 weekends, and it works just fine, but I HATE the library sorting. When you have tracks arranged by BPM, on version 1 of Serato it goes BPM-Artist-Song Title. On 2.0 it's BPM-Song Title- Artist and it's driving me f***ing crazy. If it weren't for that, I would stick with 2.0. But until they fix it, I'm going back to the newest 1.9

That's going to take some getting used to me as well as I stated earlier in this thread. Smart crates is supposed to be able to give a work around to that option, but I haven't figured it out yet.

In Serato's defense, I don't think it's something that is broken, but just something they changed. Heck I even preferred my "Marker Colors" to be sorted from Dark to Light.....that is not the case in 2.0 :(
Discobee 4:28 AM - 19 April, 2010
Plus, I just browsed through the Help section...it seems to me there are alot of 2.0 issues still. 1.9.2 isn't the best I've had, but it's been doing good so I'm gonna twerk and werk with it!
DJS/R 5:22 AM - 19 April, 2010
I am staying with 1.9.2, I can play music, it is stable, and my pioneer mixer already has all the effects I need.
DJS/R 5:23 AM - 19 April, 2010
yeah btw 1.8.something was definitely the most stable version of serato I have used. I just like 1.9.2 because I do use the sample bank.

Look, 2.0 is great, I love it, but it simply doesn't run as smoothly as previous versions have (i.e. there are more USB dropouts now) no matter what I turn off. I couldn't give a shit about keeping true to anything--all I'm saying is that when I need the core features I'll use a pre-1.9 version and when I want the features 2.0 offers, I'll open that version.
a DJ 11:16 PM - 19 April, 2010
What computers are you using? Of course every version brings more dropouts, but my computer is weak so I can't complain. Its 1.4ghz dual core 2GB RAM. So I just turn everything off, including network adapters, antivirus, etc. It still works smoothly, and I can record with Pro Tools 8 with no dropouts. I just recorded 3 mixes 40 min yesterday.

Boba Tha Hut 8:54 PM - 20 April, 2010
I get a lot of USB dropouts when I'm using 1.9.2 when I didn't get any dropouts with 1.8.X

It's definitely not the laptop since I have a fresh bare bones of XP installed with no antivirus, wireless disable, and turned off all unneccesary services. This laptop is used strictly for Serato, not even used for websurfing.

I don't think I need to upgrade to 2.0 since I have an efx box and won't run a 3rd deck.

djjoefresh 5:38 PM - 22 April, 2010
Uh why are people freaking about the updates? Why would you not want the latest greatest version of the best DVS out there?

Is it performance? Because 2.0 works just as well for me as any other version before it. No crashes, lags, USB dropouts, or anything like that for me.

Is it the GUI? It's really not that different. A couple of squared buttons and more accurate VU meters. That's about it. The new waveform and library views are optional, if you don't need them don't use them.

2.0 has the same two reliable decks that 1.9, 1.8, and every version before it had. And 2.1 will have the Ableton Bridge which will help a lot of us who want to use Scratch Live and Live to create mixes.

That's just my two cents. If 2.0 is causing you problems, then by all means stick with what works. But let the Serato team know so they can fix it in future updates.
