Performance difference? Librany on external or internal HD?

i recently upgraded to a new Macbook Pro from an older Macbook Pro. i had space issues on my old computer so i kept my Serato library on an external drive. Now i've got plenty of space on my internal drive. is there any reason to keep using the external? are there any performance differences between keeping the files on my external drive (Western Digital Passport USB) vs putting them on my internal hard drive?

at this point i'm a little more nervous that my external would fail than i am that my internal would fail. the only down side that i see is if my MBP took a sh$t then i could pull the external drive and use another computer.

thoughts?

Well if you are worrying about performance keep your music on your internal, but backup your music to the external and maybe to another external also, so If the internal takes a dive you still have the music

been on my internal drive for a month and a half... much better performance. external backup is good advice. i back up on two separate external drives plus online.
