On the 57SL what is the Flex FX used for

DJCrank 8:07 PM - 17 September, 2011
Can someone tell me how do you use the flexfx button the 57SL. Its a shame I have had this mixer almost 2 years and never payed the button any mind. Probably because I am not that good with the FXs on the mixer. My pioneer 909 spoiled me.
Dax 11:45 PM - 17 September, 2011
you can use it two ways.
1st plug in an external fx unit(i use a roland re-20,not a dj fx unit) i.e pioneer efx ,korg kaos pad.
2nd you can route the 57 internal fx to it. group6,b6,b3 then pressing the flexFX buttons will add fx to channel 1,2 or both at same time.
hope that helps you out.

I will have to try that out, I never used that. I havent really ventured past Group 1 and 2, becuase I have my cue points set in B1 thru B6.

That's kind of how I've always used it except I have set bpm for L and R on the same joystick.

I've been telling people to send the fx to AUX and use the FlexFX for yrs but didn't know someone had documented it. That's great... it will save me a lot of time trying to explain it.
Thx. for the link ral.
DJCrank 12:27 AM - 28 September, 2011
I never knew how to use that thing. I was going to go back to my pioneer 909 until I went with video, but I never did use the FX. I tried out Ral's tip and it worked immediately.
DJCrank 12:55 AM - 29 September, 2011
Works like a charm, double thanks. Possible the best tip I got since I have been on this forum, besides the Mix Emergency recommendation...lol

amazing! been wanting to do this for ages but wasn't sure how.....

you've inspired me to re-map my 57 and ditch my current set-up (xone:92/Kontrol X1/EFX500) for a while!!

will let you know how i get on.....
beezwax 2:29 PM - 11 October, 2011
if anyone is interested, i'm going to use the flex fx buttons as a simple echo on/off (using the 57's on board FX)

for simplicity i want to keep separate controls for the left and right decks so J1 & P1 etc. are always left deck and J2 & P2 etc. are always right deck.....

i'm going to use P1/P2 for HPF control or LPF control (switchable by pressing it)

J1/J2 up is loop on/off (loop toggle)
J1/J2 left & right is 'track BPM effect 1 & 2' respectively
J1/J2 down is censor (sounds great when combined with flex fx echo on ;-)

B1-B3 are cue points 1-3 for left deck and B6 - B4 are cue points 1-3 for right deck

this is all in group B5 (DJ FX) and i will switch to group B1 or B2 for track selection.

i've also re-mapped the B3 (playback) group in case i have a no-deck emergency or the needles are jumping around on the boat:-

P1/P2 is pitch shift or pitch bend (switchable by pressing it)
J1/J2 up is loop on/off (loop toggle)
J1/J2 left & right is rewind & fast forward
J1/J2 down is play/pause

B1-B6 are cue points as before

Ok, Now I find out that the microphone echo is on also when I try to use the FLEX FX, am I doing something wrong? It works pretty good with the two channels, but I dont need it on my microphone
ral 5:05 PM - 26 October, 2011
just OFF the FLEXFX when using your mic
ral 5:06 PM - 26 October, 2011
^oops, i mean OFF the FX in group 6, when using the mic
Rane, Support
Zach S 5:02 PM - 28 October, 2011
Yes.. the Mic is ran through the AUX so if your running an effect through the AUX the mic will get the effect added to it.
DJCrank 9:45 PM - 28 October, 2011
Sometimes I wish the rane had the ease of use of FX like my Pioneer 909. Or effects toggle on and off should be incorporated into Group 1.

It can be if you run the effect through the aux. Simply press the Flex FX button to turn the effect on for that channel.

Don't know about that, but I saw a guy rewire the Flex FX buttons to trigger other effects within Serato. Not just re-mapping a button though, he had to bust out a soldering iron and hard wire the thing!

That was a while ago... back when 57 was new. I think it was on the old forums under Scratch Live stuff. Most of that got deleted by this point.

DJ Reflex 3:52 AM - 14 February, 2018
Maybe. I forgot who did it, but I always thought it was a great idea. You remember that hack?

I’m curious, I have a SL1 and a MC4000 controller. I use SL and SDJ respectively. Is it worth buying a 57 these days? I was thinking of buying one to mod. I’d love to have a rotary mixer/sl box in one.

A Rane 57 is only worth it if you get it for free, outside of that no it would not be worth "buying" It would be worth "inheriting".

What is worth it is a Rane 72, I just bought a second one. One for a flight case and for gigging, and one for the home studio.
