Time For a New Mixer, Need Help...

Julls 6:01 PM - 25 August, 2006
Since its been pointed out that I would be better off with a higher end mixer, its time to step up my game. I'm looking for a 19" mixer for $400 and under. Here are some choices that i'm looking at. Please lead me in the right direction.

www.123dj.com Supernatural any take on this one?

www.123dj.com Eh' not too sure about this one, it just came out.

www.123dj.com Not sure, this one is prolly not a good choice.

www.123dj.com From the makers of final crap! I've never used their mixers.

www.123dj.com Alot of mobiles use this mixer.

www.123dj.com Yeah um I wish, way ouot of my price range.

Help me out folks, i'm a mobile DJ, I don't scratch so I don't need a water fader or something like that just glides if you blow on it. I don't want to have to buy another mixer for a while so help me make a wise choice. Also no need to fret i'm not going to make my final purchase from www.123dj.com I just like the layout of their site so I do my preliminary shopping there. Thanks for the help everyone!

Yeah, that Denon is a good choice. You will be happy with the quality AND the matrix inputs.
JayB1200 6:39 PM - 25 August, 2006
that dennon looks pretty nice, dont mess with anything thats american dj

Yeah, I had a good feeling about the Dennon. I just need to make sure it has XLR outs on it. Now, I might be able to splurge a little bit and maybe get the DN-X800 or the DN-X900. The only thing is I don't like the look of the 800. It looks kinda ol' skool. From looking at the specs, I don't think that I will be able to use all the features of the 900 its also just a little bit out of my budget. So I think i'll stick with the 500. Supernatural, you think i'll be good for a while with the 500? Also How do I go about eq'ing my sound when i'm giging? Do I need to buy a 19" EQ also? I have BBE 882i Sonic max. So do I need an eq on top of that?

I'm not so sure I understand. www.planetdj.com that mixer does not have XLR mic inputs. And it only has one set of XLR outs. What if down the road I choose to hook up more speakers? I need Meister to chime in, he has seen my current rig and knows how its set up and used it.
Julls 7:16 PM - 25 August, 2006
But then this bad boy has more options with inputs and outputs. www.planetdj.com Supernatural I know you use this mixer. Is it worth $600? If it is I need to take the wifey out to a nice dinner somewhere so she can't walk into another room when I try to ask her if I can get it.
NOMOLOS JD 7:35 PM - 25 August, 2006
get a rane empath. All those mixers are garbage.
OG Supernatural 8:00 PM - 25 August, 2006
As you are trying to stay in the $400 range and you are a mobile, the x500 is a good piece. I use a single space Rane EQ. Yes, I recommend getting an EQ to dial in your sound and combat feedback.

I don't think the 500 has a zone or booth out which can be handy if you have speakers inside and out, needing different volume levels for each. Although, it's not that common so the 500 should be fine.

If you add additional speakers you will just have to daisy chain them.

I don't use the 900 to often (ceremony system) but have been happy with it so far. It provides may options for all the different mobile gig setups.

I don't think you read my post, but my budget is $400 and under. Plus the Empath is not 19".

Word, i'll look into getting 1U EQ. I know BBE makes one that has a sonic maximizer built into it also, so maybe I could sell my 882i and have an all in one unit.

Man I just don't like the connectivity on the 500, plus the 500 does not have XLR mic inputs. The 900 has so many more outputs and such. I'm going to look at each spec and circle what I need/want. I hate being in limbo like this. Why don't they ever have gear that has exactly what I want?
OG Supernatural 8:23 PM - 25 August, 2006
The additional outs on the 900 are for the zone/booth, which are cool to have but don't often use. I think the mic inputs are the same on both the 500 and 900. Not a big deal to have one 1/4 and one xlr. I think that x500 will serve you well for a while and when you are ready to step up from that some new technology will be out and you can use the x500 for backup or in your ceremony system.
Julls 8:24 PM - 25 August, 2006
Damn Supernatural why do I always second guess you? There is a XLR mic input, yo upon zooming in on the PDF with the specs. I zoomed in on the mixer ouputs and inputs, this thing has 3 outputs. I think i'll go with this mixer. I like the price, and it has most of the features I want/need. See here: www.denondj.com

Yeah, i'm seriously getting this mixer. It looks hot, and its "pro" and "real" (thanks KaGeN). It has almost everything I need. I appreciate everyones help.
DJ Unique 8:53 PM - 25 August, 2006
For what your looking for, the X500 is what you need.
The others are not as good.

The X500 does have a zone/both output that's assignable to any channel or main.

The X900 is just about the same except it has digital ins/outs and has a cool track mark feature for when you are recording to a CD recorder.

Julls! Save your money and get something better. trust me. its better to spend $800-$1000 now and be cool for a while. instead you might go through 2 mixers in the same time frame and spend more for less of a mixer.

my2cents.

I think i'll be fine for a while on the 500. I appreciate the advice though zoo! I just couldn't see myself spending that sort of money on a mixer right now. Thats way out of my price range. Once I outgrow the 500 it will go into my backup/ceremony rig.
Julls 10:01 PM - 25 August, 2006
Oh and by the way, I didn't see a switch on the 500 to assign one of the four channels to the crossfader. Can someone enlighten me? Maybe I didn't look in the right spot?
OG Supernatural 10:07 PM - 25 August, 2006
Should be there... each channel should have a tiny switch.
djtonypsalms 10:14 PM - 25 August, 2006
Maybe consider Rane's MOJO MM8z.

I've seen these go for $400-$500 on eBay.

Good luck!

As much as I would like to buy a Rane. I I'm going to stick with the 500. Plus I hate ebay. I want something brand spanking new with a warranty. Good looking out though.

I've got the 500 in my mobile setup. Not one complaint. You will be happy. It's a reliable mixer.
