Dear Serato, please stop working on The Bridge...

The Bridge is cool, I own SSL + Ableton Live but the takeup doesn't seem to be there, I think due to a number of reasons including:

1 - two different and completely unconnected beat mapping/warping systems
2 - no reverse audio play
3 - a bit clunky in terms of starting both programmes, setting audio outs etc.
4 - it eats screen real estate

I keep going back to it and trying to build interesting things, but I keep then returning to just using Ableton by itself, or worse Traktor (which I own but don't enjoy using compared to SSL)

Instead, how about giving us similar functionality in a smoother more consistent package:

1 - synced SP6 decks w/ some basic fx (filter, eq, whatever) and routing options
2 - a virtual MIDI out sending MIDI clock (that way you can sync Ableton on the same computer or a separate computer using the various MIDI network protocols)
3 - better fx
4 - more sophisticated MIDI mapping + output

then you have all the fun of the bridge plus a Traktor killer for the Richie Hawtin types out there...

not to mention the Ableton 64 bit update kills the Bridge...

I do want an ableton 64 update, but the bridge is awesome! i'd hate to see it sidelined, it's unique and the potential that it has walks all over traktor's sample decks. It just needs to be easier to beat grid quickly and have improved integration. If it stays as it is, traktor will overtake very soon.

I recently got the bridge after getting Ableton Live 8 and I'm still on the fence about it. I love that I can make my own beats on Ableton and potentially make some dope Live remixes but I don't like the inability to backspin the track or cue it up like a normal mp3. I'm having trouble mixing the songs quickly on the fly like I would with a normal track but I'm sure I'll get it worked out once I play with it more. I like Redselector's suggestions but I'm also with Dj Ace in that I still want to support the Bridge in hopes that they step it up and make it more usable for DJs and not just producers that want to play their tracks. It has a lot of potential but it's certainly more in favor of music producers than DJs that want to make live mashups in the middle of a set at the moment. (in my opinion) Personally I'm happy I can produce a beat and play it live but it's easier to just record the beat and save it as an mp3 to play in serato than it is to use the bridge to make a live remix/mashup track using my own beats.

The bridge isn't perfect but the potential is off the chart. One solid update and midi out added to SSL would make it an industry standard for sure.
