Good idea! Add BPM to searchfield.

I was actually thinking of this the other day. When I was using the browse feature I had to click on a bunch of different bpm's.

It would be cool to search like +/-5 bpms. SO if you were at 88 it would show everything from within 5 bpm's of that.

something like that. Definitely would be put to good use here.

I would like this feature as well. It would be much quicker that using the browse section.

Actually I was thinking about a variant. What if you were able to select multiple genres, BPM's, even crates perhaps? In your Browse-view, using Shift+mouse you could select all BPMs from 125 to 135 , and your tracklist would display all songs with these BPMs. Additional to that you can even do a search only in this selection of BPMs.

It would also be easier for Genres for me. I tend to make subdivisions e.g.
dance / pop
dance / house
dance / deephouse
dance / Nudisco
dance / hardhouse
...
This way, by selecting "dance / pop", "dance / deephouse", "dance / nudisco", I could display all files of the 'softer' subgenres at once and make a better selection of whatever I'm looking for to play.

This is my most wanted feature for 1.8. "-" should be a symbol to indicate BPM range.

Also, there should be a keystroke or button that brings up all tracks that are within a certain BPM range of whatever track is currently playing. You could even work out an algorithm to figure out what is within rane on a pair of Techs and implement that. It'd make an easy "what could I mix into this?" button.

ever play songs at 45 speed with the pitch lock on? i do this and have an index for mixing the ranges of songs at 45 speed. now i can do it in my head instead. if you play around it is easy to learn the ranges & can be fun (although you might want to -8 your 45'ed up song)

its good for 70-80 bpm tracks

just put your BPM's in your song name (ie. Usher - Yeah - 105) That way you can search by exact BPM.

All my songs are named this way so it works pretty well for me, but not for searching for a "BPM Range."

In a program like ID3-TagIT, you can set up your ID3 tags and have the program change the song name to match your ID3's in a certain format (ie. <Artist> - <Title> - <BPM>)

Adding the the bpm to the track name is a great fix till they add this feature. I am for it as well +1

just some ideas for night owl

you could put x (or some other letter or symbol not usually in front of a number) in front of the number and pt in x9 to get all bpms in 90's for example (x90, x91, etc.) same for 123 you would put in x12...

or you could estimate your bpms by say every fifth on (85...90...95) and then use that in the title field for searching.

+1 Or even just spell out the range like 80-95 BPM, when typing in 'BPM' you are effectivley telling you are just searching for BPM field.

Although this is a long gone discussion, i just would like to share what i did from the beginning... I actually used the comments column to put my bpm's in... eg. 120 bpm
So now once i go to search box i write the bpm i want eg. 80 bpm, 130 bpm and all my songs with that bpm would come up.

why don't you put it in the BPM column?

also, there's a great workaround if you use iTunes - make some smart playlists that select all songs of a certain BPM range (i.e. "BPM" "is in the range" "95" to "105"

i still think it would be a great feature though. actually, two new features would be good:-

1. have a box where you type in a BPM and then all tracks within a 10 BPM range show up (i.e. you just type '90' and all tracks from 85 to 95 show up)

2. improve the browse feature to use a BPM range rather than a BPM number

i don't think it's possible to change the column headings in browse mode but that would be useful too.

you could even use it for key matching or other stuff then.

you can use smart crates inside SSL for this as well - just set two rules

i.e.

"BPM" "greater than or equal to" "95"
"BPM" "less than or equal to" "105"

add the two rules inside one smart crate......
