Serato Software Feature Suggestions

What features would you like to see in Serato software?

Serato DJ wanted features poll

Davideon 10:08 PM - 7 March, 2015
Hopefully this will work as I've never tried one before. This basically takes the most recent feature suggestions and adds them to a poll. Unfortunately I couldn't limit the number of answers so please only tick 5 .

The Flac Album Art is included in Serato DJ 1.7.4 beta and I am not sure what is meant by clearer waveforms as I see nothing wrong with them but the buffer KING waveform was added as a standard user selectable feature within setup so that may take care of that.

SDJ-14083 • Album Art In FLAC files is not displayed
SDJ-00086 • EQ Colored Waveforms setup option

Just trying to help as those votes may actually be wasted votes.
Davideon 2:08 PM - 8 March, 2015
My error . Removed FLAC option.

Clearer waveforms has been raised a number of times and is more to do with when a track is loaded and the over view is tiny

Gapless autoplay?? - why not to bring a premixed set or use any other mpr player instead of asking serato to add a feature which is absolutely against the main program idea???

I agree and half the things on the list can be overcome in some sort of way or workaround but BBD is correct in that it is in fact what people are asking for not necessarily saying he agrees or disagrees one way or another. It seems (to me) to be a fair and non biased overview of several features requests. If I had it my way the list would look completely different but who is to say the community as a whole agrees with me. I'd say the entire point of this poll would be to narrow down on what I am getting at here anyways.

simple, often wished, things:

- make the waveform (the total one, not the moving one) BIGGER.
- please let us adjust which folder to be watched for auto import of tracks
- please allow (for example right mouse click) to analyze a file or trigger a reanalyzes WITH A CONNECTED CONTROLLER. on the fly, during the set
- please prevent that the sync switches always from beat sync to normal sync as soon as I touch a CUE. THAT SUCKS. (comming from Traktor...so real disturbing stuff. you are implementing beat jump right now...please consider this sync stuff as well)

Other stuff is already in the actual beta, so under the line a good job guys!
But seriously...a few of the things above must be a little piece of shit to implement. Why we have to wait for this since forever?
select folder to watch can´t be the hardest stuff to code.
make the total wave form bigger as well not.

I´m 38 now, means:
a) I´m blind (therefore please make the waveform bigger)
b) I´m lazy (please let SDJ whatch a folder of my choice)

Perfect example of how certain things are more important to one person yet would not matter at all to the next. The two things mentioned three times in this post alone are things that would seem like time wasted to me (no offense meant as I TOTALLY get they are important to you) and furthermore larger waveforms would be nothing but a waste of valuable real estate for those of use who have decent vision.

TRUST I mean no offense in any way as I promise if I listed my wants helitno I am sure would feel the same way. My ways are performance related his are convenience related. Nothing wrong with diversity and as a matter of fact it is diversity itself that makes this more of an art than a profession or job. This diversity is the exact reason I personally feel A poll even if it is not this poll is a great idea. This way we could figure out which options would/could improve the experience for the Serato DJ community at large. I mean ideally everyone gets their wants addressed. Full knowing this is unlikely I always agree with Serato's policy on majority matters.................. even if it is not my wants that the majority wants. At least I understand the reason with that logic.

I think the issue here is with the over view sometimes showing the waveforms it's hard to see the breaks etc coming up. So expanding the height of the waveforms within the current windows wouldn't use more real estate

exactly.

THAT I can get on board with and makes total sense. More or less changing the wave amplitude without changing the time or period.

Agreed. I don't understand why this happens when you have Quantize + Smart Sync on. It should stay in Smart Sync when you hit a hot cue.

Hey BBD,

I love the poll. I personally would have separated The Bridge from mixtape though, but otherwise its a good selection of some of the top requests and definitely a few we have plans for this year.

How does it count unique votes considering you don't have to log in with any account? Is it per IP address?

There are no unique votes. I just voted for "Test" 15 times in under a minute from the same IP address. I guess BBD did not click the option to limit the amount of votes per IP address. Kind of defeats the point of a poll. Have you seen how "persistent" some of the forum members are with their feature requests.

Hopefully something can be done. To no direct fault of BBD this kind of makes this poll just another day at the forums.
deejdave 1:52 AM - 21 March, 2015
I should say I still admire the effort and appreciate the time it took to come up with this. Just would like it to be as accurate as it can be. I am sure everyone is familiar with Youtube, Beatport and the likes and how things work with "likes" and all.

hi Martin. I don't know how it would count unique votes. I did select the option to only allow one vote per person but evidently that didn't happen. I also disabled the option for people to add their own answers but that didn't happen either!

I'm a bit disappointed in the low number of voters but maybe making it a sticky would help or linking to it from the main sdj forum could help?

I could make a better one if you want?

most interesting for me is the popularity of auto fade and also the location of voters

I am into the idea of raising awareness, but wary that if I "endorse" this poll to that extent, then it becomes a bit of a promise that we will be held to.

Let me think about it...but the fact that you can vote multiple times will make the data pretty inaccurate.

Just made an updated poll with a few more options. Also, it only allows 1 form submit per user using IP and cookies. Furthermore, there are no custom fields for it.

Its cool that it didn't let me vote more than once, but I noticed that when voting I could tick every single box. It wasn't limited to just one/three choices.

ok. I've edited it now so that people can only vote once. I've also deleted the duplicate votes - daves delightful 15 was all I had to delete really. Only 4 others did it twice and haven't impacted on the popularity. So hopefully this is good to go again.

The only thing I can't do is split the existing bridge/mistake votes. But as that is most popular could have a further poll? I've added separates anyway
deejdave 4:02 PM - 22 March, 2015
I didn't think that poll site allows you to limit votes though. As in only 5 categories per voter or so.
deejdave 4:07 PM - 22 March, 2015
All else seems good though. Although I don't see the benefit in removing the other field. I only say this because out of my top five only two show up on this poll.
akakak 7:06 AM - 23 March, 2015
I'm sure the wave used to zoom in/out when changing the size of loops? Maybe not. I would like that - I always want to be able to see the entire loop/sliced loop.

I'd also like a proper gate effect.

And split cue on the DDJ-SZ if that's not a hardware limitation.
DJ Jazzy-Lu 1:54 PM - 5 April, 2015
Thanks for the poll. I would like to see auto crate updates. I add a song to a folder on my hard drive and it updates the crate in Serato DJ. If Virtual DJ can do it why not Serato, yes there are programs to use to do it but why use an external program. Come on Serato try to keep up with VDJ
akakak 2:21 PM - 5 April, 2015
Haha
serkan 11:54 AM - 6 April, 2015
What about an unofficial official poll?
One "made by Serato" so max. 3 choices, included in the forums so that each user can only vote once, and only if they're a member for a month or longer? ;)

I guess the problem with "official" polls is that people would complain about the fact that a much voted feature will not be there in one of the next versions of SDJ, right?

Leads me to asking why there is no offical poll made by mods, which would be controlled by the serato staff hence the data could be taken seriously....?
maarawoe 9:49 PM - 6 April, 2015
btw. as long as there is no official poll, making any other poll sticky would cause it be enormously missleading and misunderstood....

A secondary problem is what could potentially come of it anyways. In all honesty the Serato forums is not actually a fair representation of who actually uses Serato yet regarding the ones who do use the forums................. have you seen some of the feature requests that come up? LOL half the time people are requesting things that are already possible.

I will say one thing though I would LOVE to see an official poll with options that Serato would actually consider thus it would let some of the individuals with these outrageous requests it just would not fit into the Serato ecosystem. I hope this is making sense.

- DYNAMIC BPM ANALYSIS OPTION: Very useful for some songs when BPM is not static. Dynamic BPM is used in softwares like Pioneer Rekordbox and CDJ equipment, for example. Actually, SDJ fix a unique BPM value and fit the grid in song, based in BPM. The problem is in some songs (vinyl, acoustic, band, etc) that not have a stable and static BPM and it can change during music progress!

An example: Let's assume we're playing a song on the Deck A and this is changing the BPM between 125.50 to 126.10. A fixed BPM value would be the predominant value, for example, 126.10 and it is this value that appears in the music TAG. To make the perfect synchronism with Deck B, Deck A assumes the Master function. When there is variation BPM, the same occurs on the Deck B, just as if the move pitch slider.

- METRONOME FOR GRID ADJUST: It's very useful for a perfect grid adjust. Metronome is used in several software like Rekordbox, Ableton, Magix... It could be a option in SETUP and would be actived in OFFLINE mode only!
