No this release will not officially support Mac OS X El Capitan. We're currently working together with our hardware partners to investigate the connection and audio issues being reported so these can be resolved for another upcoming Serato DJ release.

Is there any reason why, there is no fade into next track or some option for that. Me and many dj's in my area want this. My cd player ten years ago had this option. I'm sure its a simple thing to have.
(And please don't say to mix dinner music. That is not an option for mobile dj's. I cannot dj for 10 hours, for background music)

All I can say is ABOUT TIME! This was one of the features I used the most in other DJ software (to be honest it gets tiring to reanalyze the entire library for key detection with other programs). I'll be expecting the next update. Thanks guys.

This is great news! Good bye to Mixed In Key! ut my question is will I have to re-analyze all of my songs for Serato DJ to adds it`s own key information, or will it detect the current key information already on the file that MIK put in?
Samuel S

It will detect and display any previous key info that is in your tags. You can then just choose to analyse only the music in your library without key info, or re-analyse everything. It's up to you.
If you have different key tags throughout your library, our key display will be helpful too as it will let you display everything in one single format, depending on what you like to use :)

It's about time! Been waiting for this feature for over 6 years! It's really frustrating anylsing songs with a different software and manually type in the key for every track, it was so annyoying to the point where I was considering just using Usbs and have my whole library on rekord box as its much easier to create playlists on there. I'm really glad that u guys have finally made it happen :) If you could create a feature similar to the rekord box one that lets you play tracks without loading them and also lets you play two tracks at the same time without any hardware plugged. It would be very convinient and essential to have that feature for preparing playlists. many thanks 🙌

Will this update eliminate the need for third party software "Mixed in Key"?
When you say "online player", will you need to reanalyze your entire library to have the key noted?
will a library that has been keyed by other software translate into Serato without issue?

Yes you will no longer need other software to detect the key. If you have files that have had key detected from other software, then yes it will still show up and work correctly in your Serato DJ library. You can go into the setup screen and change what your key displays as between Camelot, Open Key, Classical Key and Original Tag (just displays whatever's written to the tag).

Secondary sorting would be great with the BPM/Key columns and is something we want to do in a future update. Until then you can use Smart Crates to help achieve similar results as djmallon suggested.

Also I don't suppose the clicking noise issue with a VCI-400 has been fixed has it? Mine is virtually unusable now yet otherwise such a brilliant controller.

Unfortunately you won't, re-mapping will only work with primary hardware in this release (that is hardware that can unlock SDJ). But we look to add OSA remapping support in an update :)
If you don't want the analysing to affect your existing beatgrids/BPMs then just untick 'Set BPM/Beatgrids' and make sure 'Set Key' is on, then analyze your library. This way it will leave the BPMs/Beatgrids and only add key.

Yes if Serato DJ analyzes a file with an existing key and you have the 'Set Key' option ticked, it will re-write with the new SDJ key information. If your files have already been analyzed you will need to re-analyze them so it gets the key. If you DON'T want to overwrite your existing keys then make sure 'Set Key' is unticked.
Yes. There is a known issue with the motorised platter controllers and re-mapping which is : all decks need to be paused for the re-mapping to work correctly.
There's no video update in this release. There is no current way to properly hamster-switch the video crossfader like this.
No there is no CDJ-350 support in this release. We are working on things we have deemed more important to a larger number of our users. Having said that if we get a large number of requests for this from users we can look into it.

Yes, Scratch Live and Serato DJ are separate applications but they share the same library and many preferences. If you re-analyze your files with Serato DJ you can choose to either overwrite your existing keys (make sure 'Set Key' is turned on) or you can choose to not write any new key and keep your existing ones (make sure 'Set Key' is turned off). If you are happy with the existing key tags that MIK has written to your files then don't re-analyze and all your keys will show up and work correctly in SDJ already :)

Another example of sDJ adding features that other DJ software have had for a loong time....like years. Wow! But, marketing magic and image goes a long way.
And some comments like the following are so amusing.
"Will this support the use of real keys or just those silly "Camelot" codes"
This is what happens when you don't understand technology.

Guys most of you are asking the same question so I'm going to say it again one more time :
• If you have existing key tags (from MIK or some other application) these will show and work fine in Serato DJ 1.8. You don't need to do anything.
• If you want Serato DJ to overwrite these then re-analyze them in Serato DJ with 'Set Key' ticked. Analyzing with 'Set Key' ticked will always re-write and add the SDJ key to your files.
• If you don't want Serato DJ to overwrite these then make sure you don't analyze them in Serato DJ with 'Set Key' ticked
• If you want to analyze your music to get key information but you don't want it to change your BPM/Beatgrids then simply untick 'Set BPM/Beatgrid' and tick 'Set Key' before you Analyze.
Hope that helps.

• If you want to analyze your music to get key information but you don't want it to change your BPM/Beatgrids then simply untick 'Set BPM/Beatgrid' and tick 'Set Key' before you Analyze.
Hope that helps.

How accurate is the Key detection?
I use a combination of MIK, Rekordbox and Beatport for my key detection. And from the general consensus, MIK is the most accurate.
If that is the case, what will make me want to sway into using the built-in key detection?

We'll let you guys decide what you think is best. We're confident our key analysis is very high quality and we've put a lot of work into this.
If you enjoy using a third party application currently there's no reason you need to stop using that. The new key features in Serato DJ will read and display any key info analysed in any software and display it in the format you wish.

Excellent update! keep them coming...
I've been playing with Rekordbox DJ over the last few days (30day trial) it's not bad, not as polished feeling by far but I do love the 'related tracks' suggestion area in the browser , that would be nice to see in serato too at some point.

hey guys one of the first serato users from germany here.
Started with the sl1 now having sl4 and sl3 i am still using ssl cause i can customise my effects perfectly. My workflow is what made me famouse here as a longtime Resident and i am teaching this workflow in my DJ School.
My Question is if you guys will ever incorporate the old efx section in sdj?

could you clarify does that mean the have to be pause to actually remap or they have to be paused to use the remapped functions?

It just means when you actually do the re-mapping you need to make sure the platters are paused. They don't need to be paused to use it! :)

Why any working DJ have the urge to upgrade to an early version of an upgraded OS when the main company with the software being use to DJ and (possibly also make money out of) sent out a warning note on the same day of El Capitan NOT to update?
Serato did, Native Instruments did, Pioneer did! So, wouldn't that give a pause and have it sunk for a minute and not do it? And if all three leading DJ companies have problems with this OS upgrade, doesn't it means the fault is a little bit more on Apple side? I'll take the 1.8 upgrade happily and feeling just a tad bit of remorse for the ones who blindly upgraded to El Capitan. #notpoliticallycorrect, I know!
Anyway, Serato thanks for the update and keep up the good work.

Hi all, remember to read the blog entry at the top of this page! It has a lot of information you guys have been asking for :)
There's also a lot of great feature suggestions here, most of which should be directed to our Serato DJ feature suggestion area here serato.com
Great feature suggestion! DeepHouseSession#1, however no plans at this stage.
Yes, you will be able to automatically jump to a compatible key (Key Sync) or manually scale up/down an octave range looking for one that fits (Key Shift).
Sorry DJ 2DMax, there's no Serato Video updates with 1.8.0.
Unfortunately not, you will still need to set cue points yourself. Using Beat Jump to skip through the track makes this a piece of cake though :)

All Serato DJ supported file types that allow metadata tags to be written.
No news about this for now sorry MBLL.
Hopefully in the future but not with this 1.8.0 update.
We are currently testing for issues with Windows 10 but it is still not currently supported. We will let you know once official support is available.
This is definitely something our developers are aware of, but no news about this right now. We are aware of the request though :)
No iTunes rating system at these stage. You could always use Emojis in the comment tag column for your own star rating system :)

how about adding fast forward & rewind buttons when the hardware is connected (like the SSL) coz it's really helpful when trying to cue a point on REL mode

Hi Joe,
You will be able to choose a format for displaying your Key for all your tracks, whether analysed in Serato DJ or elsewhere. You will be able to display Camelot, Open Key, Musical Key notation or Original Tag (what’s already in your files).
@DJ Surda,
We think our analyzation accuracy is pretty good! I don't have any stats for you, but it has been consistent in testing. In the end I guess you will be the judge :)
@Matt,
What is your ticket number? I will get the Support Team to contact you tomorrow.

We will cheeck, and "the bug that show the tracks as played even if it's only loaded for preview" should have ben already fixed ...

My question is this. It says that this new update will allow us to be able to remap functions of our controllers but then there's a footnote that says it's not available to Serato supported contollers. I have an original Vestax VCI-300 that I really like but when Serato DJ came out I lost the use of half of my buttons and some of the others don't do the same thing anymore.
Does this mean because my controller is an official Serato controller I won't be able to remap those functions?

Will the key detection be compatible with the tracks released via Serato white label? A while ago mixed in key would destroy something in the tracks and not allow them to play in full 320kbps. I've not used the service since. Also, mixed in key requires a internet connection to do its job. Will this be the same in the serato version? Thanks for all the hard work peeps!

Kudos to Serato for keeping up their game. This announcement is huge and I'm looking forward to all the good stuff that will keep coming!

Will the remapping of the VCI-380 mean that I can use it for cue points and stuff while using my sl4 for dvs at the same time like I can with Ssl?
That would be great.
Or if it's not possible because you can't have two sdj units connected at the same time, would it be possible to somehow make the vci-380 become just a mixer with midi pads on it? Maybe by a software hack?

It is a function that many djs would need to have direct manual access to, but ever since the removal of the brake knob after the S1, we cannot do this anymore (unless you change the brake speed with the virtual knob on SDJ using the...mouse pointer...).

Hello to all serato team! And thanks a lot for this update I was wishing for years now! :) I feel like it's my birthday!
I have a few questions about key analysis :
- when we do the key detection, will it be a parameter to scan all library and erase previous tag in order to have the same algorithm working for the whole library?
- will it be longer to scan a track (bpm+key)?
- will it work on all formats supported by serato?
- when will be release the user manual?
Thanks again!

Has the Pitch 'n Time algorithm been improved at all? There are still noticeable artifacts (discussed at length on the forum: serato.com) and I'd really love to see those fixed. Or better yet, give us an option to adjust the parameters of PnT since it's a paid upgrade.
Thanks for the update though, keep up the good work.

This is very interesting and ingenious in the mix for thinking detect and put the key in games.
<is there going to be a ranking selection with the key and tempo simultaneously? will be perfect!
secondly there will be a midi output clock til sychroniser to the tempo of the mix on other USB machine? it is important.
Thank you

You will be able to choose a format for displaying your Key for all your tracks, whether analysed in Serato DJ or elsewhere. You will be able to display Camelot, Open Key, Musical Key notation or Original Tag (what’s already in your files).
Cheers
Thanks for getting back to me Scott, but it doesn't really answer my question.
I get that I can choose the format for key display. What I'm asking is, if I choose to display Musical Key, when SDJ analyzes the key of the track, will it write the musical key using sharps or flats? Will it write "C#m" or "Dbm" in the key tag? Can I choose which one to display?
Thanks.

& for some of you who have mentioned Windows 10, I've been running DJ on it for about a week and it's fine. I played a four hour set last Saturday night, and it was smooth, no glitches or hiccups. Had FX running, and recorded it too, with zero problems.

Agreed. I've got two machines on Win 10 and they are both flawless.
Surprising that Mac have the on-going issues with audio going back a while now. I hope they nail it soon. Windows has been rock solid for me since Win 7, dropout free.

How does the key detection algorithm compare to that of Mixed In Key's? I know Mixed in Key has been at this for quite a while (with all of their funding going to research for better key detection algorithms) so i'm not too sure how much time/money into research Serato has put into this feature especially with how glitchy Pitch n Time has been with DVS (audio drop outs on my SX2 with DVS scratching with Pitch N time enabled).

There's no 'Day Mode' feature with this update sorry. This upcoming 1.8 update is focused around new Key Detection, the Pitch n' Time DJ Expansion Pack update and Hardware Remapping.
Yes you will be able to use Serato DJ 1.8 with the Numark NS7 at the end of October :)
WAV files do not allow tags to be written to them, so no, it will not detect the Key for WAV files. This is a limitation of the file itself and we recommend you use iTunes or something similar to convert to MP3 if you need key data or tag information :)
Secondary sort is not something that is currently possible, or with this update, but we would love for it to get included with a future release of Serato DJ. This is a great feature request :)
No, Serato Video still needs to see both the audio file and the video file separately, so you will still need to unzip karaoke .zip files before using in Serato DJ.
Thanks guys!

Hi FoEyez,
We think it's pretty good - and hopefully up to par with other key detection software. I don't have any stats for you right now, but has been pretty accurate for us so far! Yes Mixed and Key have been in the key detection game for a long time, so they definitely have some tricks up their sleeves when it comes to setting the perfect key.
Wait until Serato DJ 1.8 gets released at the end of October and you can try it out for yourself :)
Kind regards

Does this mean because my controller is an official Serato controller I won't be able to remap those functions?
Official Serato Accessories will not support remapping at this stage. There are also some limitations for specific hardware. If you have a VCI-300 and you are using it as your primary Serato DJ controller (the one to activate Serato DJ) then yes, you will be able to use the hardware remapping feature. The footnote you talk about mentions no support for our Official Serato Accessories. These are things like Pioneer CDJs, Reloop Neon, Akai AFX etc (more on this page serato.com). We hope to bring remapping support for the Official Serato Accessories soon, however it will not be available with this update.
There are a few disclaimers and some things that won't be possible with the mappings at this stage, but more information will be available once the update is out at the end of October :) Hold tight!
Yes! What a time to be alive :) ⭐️
No news at this stage sorry Batman.
Key detection will be built into Serato DJ, so will not require any Expansion Pack. However, if you want to use Key Shift (moving the track's key up and down) or Key Sync (automatically matching compatible keys) you will need to purchase the Pitch 'n Time Expansion Pack as it uses our amazing Pitch 'n Time algorithm to do such crazy things :)
Will it be now possible to have a custom midi map on that controller?
No support for Official Accessories (including DDJ-SP1 with this update sorry. We hope to have it available in a future update.
Yes, you will 😀
I have a few questions about key analysis :

- will it be longer to scan a track (bpm+key)?
- will it work on all formats supported by serato?
- when will be release the user manual?
- You can choose to erase the original key and put the new Serato DJ key in the key tag, or keep your original key if you already have one. You can choose to analyze the files with or without key detection enabled. So it is up to you :)
- We haven't noticed any increase in the time it takes to analyse files with key enabled
- Yes, all supported formats that allow tags to be written (unlike .WAV files). MP3 usually yields the best results.
- The Serato DJ 1.8 software manual will be available after the software is released. There will also be a helpful article for you to read that should explain how to use everything, also out once the software is released. :)
Thanks

My question is this. It says that this new update will allow us to be able to remap functions of our controllers but then there's a footnote that says it's not available to Serato supported contollers. I have an original Vestax VCI-300 that I really like but when Serato DJ came out I lost the use of half of my buttons and some of the others don't do the same thing anymore.Does this mean because my controller is an official Serato controller I won't be able to remap those functions?

Lets not encourage the use of MP3's please ;-) These things should have died with dial up internet.
Maybe consider the flac format? It's lossless like wavs and allows tagging. I cant understand why this wouldnt be a more sensible option. I know currently after scanning in MIK 320's do display the key but flacs and wavs dont. Am I missing something here?

While I agree it's amazing that PnT can pitch tracks to extreme levels (why you'd want to is another question), listening to it at normal ranges (+/- 1-6%) there are really noticeable artifacts. Particularly with house or techno music. Put PnT on a bare kick drum loop and you'll hear it. Once you hear it, you can't un-hear it. Really hoping that gets addressed.

Will the Camelot code system insert a zero in front of the code for 1A-9A and 1B-9B, ie 01A, 01B, 02A, 02B, 03A, 03B etc.
That will prevent 10A, 10B, 11A, 11B, 12A and 12B from being placed between 1B and 2A in a list of tracks sorted by key – which is not where they belong. They should go between 09B and 01A

Yes, the Serato DJ 1.8 release will include Pioneer DJM-S9 support.
Good idea! No news about this for now though. Maybe in the future :)
Not dodging at all. I have a few MP4 files and they seem to be tagging just fine. Any supported Serato DJ file that allows tags to be written (and are not corrupted or damaged) should work just fine.
No, OS X 10.7 (Lion) is no longer supported for Serato DJ. We dropped support for 10.7 in the last major Serato DJ update. I suggest you check the Serato DJ system requirements before continuing to make sure your computer meets our minimum system requirements serato.com
If you already have a key tag that falls within our color coding guidelines (for example, if it matches another key that already has a specific color) then yes it will get the same Key color as those with Serato DJ analysation. You can even turn all the color off and just have black and white key display if it gets too confusing :)

No, it will not insert a zero in front of a camelot key. However, we have thought about this, and our Key column is smart enough to not get confused by 10A and 1A - it should still order them correctly in order of Key if you choose to sort by Key in the library. Hopefully this helps!

Nice work Serato team.
They should go between 09B and 01A
No, it will not insert a zero in front of a camelot key. However, we have thought about this, and our Key column is smart enough to not get confused by 10A and 1A - it should still order them correctly in order of Key if you choose to sort by Key in the library. Hopefully this helps!

Hi Joel M,
No news for retina users i'm afraid :( You can try changing the scale of your resolution, or DPI, as a workaround in the meantime. We are still working on Serato DJ's resolution scaling for newer, UHD computers so hopefully it will be available in a future update :)
@DjEloThePrince
The hardware remapping available in Serato DJ 1.8 will just be for your primary Serato DJ hardware (the device that activates Serato DJ - whether controller, interface or mixer). The Denon SC3900 is not a Serato DJ primary device. We are still working on support for accessories (and other MIDI devices) and hope to include it in an upcoming release :)
Thanks guys

The up coming up grade sound promesing, but how about individual control of sample deck per say deck A or C sample deck is independant from the sample deck B or D. so you can set vocal on one side of the deck and loops on the other side. By the way, I have the DDJ-SX2 and the touch strip is disable during deck play, why not enable another function when in deck play instead of just have a dead space there. I am positive that you can please your followers with this simple request.

Yes, you were correct it was checked. Know I believe that function was added to the save guard the playing track from accidentally touching the strip when playing around with the Efx. If these is true, can it have a second function while the deck is active. it will be a very nice. I do not think that when you touch the strip on an active playing deck the jump is quantize or is it.

I´d love to map things for the perfect workflow, that´s what I always been missing workink with SDJ.

No Windows 10 support at this stage but we are still testing! We will let you know once Serato DJ is compatible with Windows 10 but it shouldn't be too far away. Already a lot of users seem to be running Serato DJ on their Windows 10 machines without issue but I would wait for official support before using in a live situation.
No news for MIDI clock output support at this stage. It's something we would love to do but currently I don't have any further info.
Scratch Live is not supported on OS X El Capitan. I would not suggest updating. Please check the Scratch Live system requirements > serato.com
This is a good idea, one we hope to get implemented into the software soon, but no further news on this update for now.
Sorry no updates to the Denon SC3900. This update is primarily focused on new Key Detection, Hardware Remapping and an update to the Pitch 'n Time Expansion Pack.

You will only be able to remap your primary Serato DJ device for now (the one that activates Serato DJ - whether controller, interface or mixer). Official Serato Accessories do not support remapping at this stage. No SHIFT remapping with this first update. There will be some limitations for specific hardware but we will let you guys know once the software is out. We also plan to keep working on this feature to make it as easy (or as complex - if thats's how you like it) for you guys as possible :)
Example: Below Am would be Dm... and NOT Bm
In the Camelot display 'Am', 'Dm' or 'Bm' are not actually used, but yes this is the sorting that takes place when using "Musical Key" as your set key display preference. When sorting by key after 'Am' would be 'F' then 'Dm'.

Serato:
Regarding the new remapping capability, the forthcoming Denon MC4000 Serato controller apparently does not have a dedicated button/fader for Crossfader control so it has to be selected in software. Would I be able to remap a given control on this Serato-enabled controller for that function with this new capability in 1.8?

Yes :)
This update shouldn't increase the load on your computer compared to using the current Pitch 'n Time Expansion Pack. In fact, I believe we have lowered overall Serato DJ CPU usage for this next release. There's also a lot more Serato DJ optimization to come :)
Have a look at the Serato DJ system requirements here > serato.com. You'll notice Pitch 'n Time DJ specs are a little higher. I would recommend something with 4GB of RAM, preferably an i7.

Question regarding Accessories
Yep, the DDJ-SX is a Serato DJ Enabled controller :)
sam.
Hey Sam...tricky question for you in regards to the Official Accessories to be supported on a future release...To give you an understanding, Imagine i use a ddj sb2 and an sp1
I d like to be using both the main unit hardware and an accessory at the same time (no custom map anywhere)...but to be able to set a different performance layer to each other...I might want the ddj-SP1 to be on Hot Cue mode and the DDj SB2 to be on the Autoloop layer...Currently they just mirror each others setting.
Let me know if you can confirm that this will be possible after remapping wil be supported for accesories
Cheers

Yeah, this would be great but if I remember all the Pio gear send the same signal on those performance pads from their range.
I'm not sure if it lies with Pio? Either way it would be sweet.

You are probably right about that..I think they currently are on the same channel and notes....However i am sure they can change the sp1s transmission channels via firmware and add another layer....it already has an additional mode which is transmitting things differently for SL and for general mapping from day 1....i wouldn't also be surprised if there might even be another layer inside it already, that we don't know about.....
However regardless of the sp1 there is a bunch of other accessories to benefit from those combo options..Hopefully someone will give us an official answer
Cheers

Will the mixer section on Akai AMX be able to be remapped at some point?
we could combine the High and Mid eq like an old scratch mixer on the mid eq knob and use the High eq knob to be a proper Gains knob (using the endless encoders only for pitch)...
Will this ever be an option for the AMX and remapping function on DJ?
Cheers

The AMX is remappable so should be good to go. It's just the AFX that isn't just yet.

How would you map the mid/high in software? Would you lose the high and just have EQ on the mid?

You are right...i meant to map the bass and the mids together on one single knob....You wouldn't be loosing anything...you d just have a single control knob for both bass and mid....i just dont want my channel gain to be on an endless rotary encoder
That said of course only if they decide to open up the eq & gain controls for mapping on the GUI midi panel....or if they provide us with the command lines for the xml....

Serato just announced free key detection, a huge update on P'NT DJ and hardware remapping and people are still complaining?
49% of the comments is how people ask questions that are answered well in the post already. Another 49% is about unsatisfied people who are pissed that they didn't get their own requested feature.
Kudos to Serato for keeping up their game. This announcement is huge and I'm looking forward to all the good stuff that will keep coming!

Downloading the OS X Mavericks Installer from the OS X El Capitan App Store:
To be able to find the Mavericks and Yosemite installer app, you must have downloaded it at some point with the same Apple ID you are using to access the App Store. If you never previously downloaded it or installed it on a Mac, you will not find the installer available on that account.
1)- Go to the Apple menu and choose “App Store”.
2)- Click on the “Purchases” tab and log in to your Apple ID if you haven’t done so already.
3)- Scroll through the list of purchased / downloaded apps and find "OS X Mavericks" or "OSX Yosemite", then click the “Download” button next to its name.
4)- Re-download the OS X Mavericks or Yosemite installer from the App Store.
5)- Confirm that you want to download the installer for OS X Mavericks (10.9) or Yosemite (10.10), despite running a newer version of OS X (10.11).
6)- Confirm downloading OS X 10.9 or 10.10 from OS X 10.11.
7)- Downloading Mavericks/Yosemite from App Store.
The familiar “Install OS X Mavericks” or/and “Install OS X Yosemite”app will appear in the /Applications/ folder of the Mac when it has finished downloading.
At this point you can do whatever your original intention was with the installer app, whether it’s simply copying it to another older Mac to upgrade it to a newer OS (but not to El Capitan), make a bootable installer drive, format and run a clean install of the OS X 10.9/10.10, or whatever your plan was.
For what it’s worth, this process works to download any other older version of the OS X installer app that is attached to your App Store account, as well as re-downloading the installers of currently active versions of OS X, including the install application for OS X Yosemite.
Use the DiskMaker X to build your key for a fresh install: diskmakerx.com
Good Lucky!

No update for UHD displays in this release. Just what is described in the blog post at the top of this page.
Follow the instructions for using the Beta. If you can reproduce the issue on all versions of Serato DJ start a help ticket with our support team and one of our staff can look into why Serato DJ is not connecting to your DDJ-SZ. Otherwise if it is just an issue with the 1.8.0 beta version then please post your feedback in the beta area.
This shouldn't be working?
It seems to be working well...had more troubles with 8...that's why I switched.
But is it odd that it is working?
Just because we don't provide official support for Windows 10 doesn't mean that it wouldn't work at all.. We just haven't completed official testing for this OS so can't guarantee that it will be stable and ready for performance situations. We have a lot of users on Windows 10 already with no problems :) Hopefully Windows 10 support will be available soon.
Hey Nik sorry this won't be available with this first release of hardware user remapping. We are looking into the current limitations (which will be outlined further once the feature is available) and hopefully we can release an update further down the line that addresses issues like this :)
We would love to offer further customizability of performance pad features, shift functions etc so hopefully it will come in a future update!

Unfortunately this is due to the NS7II and NS7III firmware sending out the same MIDI signals in all performance pad modes. We're hoping to bring an update to this in the future but not for this 1.8 release i'm afraid :(

All the information for this release is in the blog post at the top of this page. No update of CDJ-850 or DJM-750 for now. This release is primarily around Key Detection, Hardware User Remapping and Key Shift/Sync.
One question: will the DJM900NXS also be mappable like the "SRT" version? ...i'm using it with the clubkit
They work very much the same. You will need to enable the DJM900NXS as a MIDI device in the SETUP screen of Serato DJ 1.8. Once it is enabled you will be able to remap any control on the DJM900NXS that sends appropriate MIDI signals :)

We do not currently support OS X El Capitan as some compatibility issues have emerged with hardware driver connection and audio. Your best bet is to roll back your operating system to OS X Yosemite > support.serato.com
If you are a professional DJ who requires stable software you will need to stay on a supported operating system until the issues with OS X El Capitan are ironed out - especially if you require Serato DJ to get paid!

If you are not familiar with our forum area or have not been in one of our public beta areas before please make sure you read the Sticky And Compulsory Discussions at the top of the page. They explain how the area works, and how to download the installer files.
The Vestax 05 ProIV is not a supported Serato DJ device and is not affected by this update.
If you still have OS X Yosemite in your 'Purchases' list in the App Store then you might be able to download it again and make a bootable copy. Follow the second section of this article for more information ▶︎ www.gottabemobile.com
Thanks

Can I run 1.8.0 beta side by side with 1.7.x? That is, will 1.8.0 beta replace 1.7.x, so that I can no longer use 1.7.x?
Thanks.

Hi Superdee,
Thanks.
It's not advisable to replace the currently stable release version of Serato DJ 1.7.8 with a beta version, so I suggest you run the beta application along side 1.7.8 rather than installing over the top.
Read this article for more information on installing multiple versions of Serato DJ on Mac OS X or Windows PC > support.serato.com

Im Using the 1.8 beta and really happy with the TTM57MKII's open midi mapping ..thank you !! is there a way to midi map the loop dial next to Loop roll button on the TTM57MKII so that it can be used to select the next or previous loop "saved" and then just use the loop roll button to turn any loop selected on and off ?......can only figure out the loop roll button to turn on and off with the (>) button next to In & Out.....just wondering is there anyway to use the dial as a selection tool between 1 loop to the next loop saved ..2..3..4...etc ?

I have gone ahead and re-analyzed 50% of my library in order to find the respective keys. I do hope that they are all saved in SDJ when the final version is released so I won't have to redo them all again.

Not saved on SDj....They are all saved on the Mp3 tag it self...They will show up in just about any program and any browser that supports tag views, as musical keys on the key browser section...
Cheers

With Pitch 'n Time DJ you can change a 5A song into 7A, but you can't change it to 7B as you can't change a major key into a minor and vice versa. But yes, this functionality is part of the $29 Expansion Pack. Studio plug-in not required :)
Energy levels.

Please report to the dance floor Watchwww.youtube.com
Awesome!
If nothing scary is found during the Serato DJ 1.8 public beta, we hope to announce Windows 10 support very soon.
What Nik said - thanks Nik!

Hi DJ HOUSE C,
I'm not sure which problems you seem to be having, but if you were having issues the best people to contact would be the Serato Support team :) They should be able to look into issues that you seem to be having.
This does sound unusual. I would contact the support team and they should be able to help out :)
You can find the 1.8 public beta here > serato.com
Make sure you read the terms of agreement and all the forum rules :)
Thanks!

No problem DJ HOUSE C,
If you find any issues related to the 1.8 beta please make sure you post about your findings in the beta area. It's good to keep all 1.8 beta talk in that place so we can monitor it correctly :)
I've had a look at your account and noticed you don't yet have a Pitch 'n Time DJ licence. Without this you will only be able to use the free Key Detection inside Serato DJ 1.8. If you do purchase the Pitch 'n Time DJ expansion pack you will be able to take advantage of Key Shift (moving the key of the track up or down semitones) and Key Sync (automatically matching keys).
Take it easy!

Honestly Scott S, maybe I could not need pitch N' time for this time... when I use my Rane SL2 built with Numark NDX400 with some MIDI controllers & gadgets, they've ability to pitch up & down 4x, 8x, 16x & 50x. the interesting to me was the key. But some of this days I would purchase pitch n' time for some reasons.
But this time I'm actually enjoy practicing or mapping the new SDJ 1.8 Beta. and knowing about it. before I used it for my work or to the club where I'm Djin'.

The only problem I've had using the beta with OS X Capitan, is that it doesn't want to shut down sometimes. I'm also still trying to figure out how to adjust the Roll settings on my ddj-sx2. I didn't loose mine, though there weren't much in it as I was just playing around, for hours I may add.
But when I installed 1.8 everything was still there, and if you open your current version of Serato & exit again, click the button to backup and if you do get any issues, which you won't, you got a backup, just remember if your stuff is on an external drive plug that in first.

I have seen several releases come out and yet nothing for the MAC users. Sort of feeling that last December I purchased the wrong product. I had an issue with my Yosemite and that was the reason I had to update right away. But know I can't accept gigs because it's not talking to my NS7II, so money is being lost because of this issue. I've been a loyal Serato user for years and it's appearing that means nothing! So, I'm praying the upgrade comes before the holiday season truly gets started!

Great new features, specially the sync KEY feature.
BUT bring back the Tempo Matching Display.
BIG BIG mistake to delete it from the Horisontal view setup.
Let us who use it have an option in settings to turn it on.
Not all of us DJ's are playing quantised drum machine tracks or do scratch shows and therefore we rely heavily on this Tempo Matching Display.
For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, load a few tracks from the 70's or 80's or some latin music and do a mix that goes on for aprox 15 - 60 seconds and you'll see why the Tempo Matching Display is such a lifesaver.

To reanalyze all songs go through steps below:
1. Select "All" from left sidebar.
2. Click on any song to select it.
3. Press "Cmd + A" to select all songs.
4. Drag selected songs and drop them on "Analyze Files" Button (visible only when controller is NOT connected)
5. Wait for process to finish :)
There is also a button next to the "Analyze Files" option to control Beat Gird/BPM and Key detection during analyze/reanalyzing so that you don't change existing BPM's just to add Key's to files.

(And please don't say to mix dinner music. That is not an option for mobile dj's. I cannot dj for 10 hours, for background music)
I agree I need this added to your Continuous Play. Now I have take time to log out of Serato to use iTunes auto Crossfade Song feature under their Playback options (1-12 sec option) for a continuous auto crossfade play. NOT for DJ'ing dance, but for professional background music play. EX for dinners, mood music, pre-Wedding, cocktail hour, etc.

I do this by routing an extra mini jack to RCA cable from my Macs audio output, to a mixers dedicated channel...i preferably use Virtual djs automix for it..or itunes is fine also...I know its not what you looking for but at the cost of a single cable, its very convenient for this kind of simply playing background music, while you may be occupied doing other stuff e.g a sound check or a break to eat or anything....
I just use Serato when i intend to mix...but i always do have a vdj shortcut handy and laptops output cabled to the mixer as such....for any-case...VDj loads very fast and can save you on a distress there. Till they implement what you asking for...you got no other option (unless you play a recorded session).
Never had any issues using both programs like that, but still i always shut down VDj after i am done with it
Cheers

Still no bridge, still a CPU hog. A few bells and whistles has got a lot of people hyped for what? Pitch 'n Time DJ (rocks no complaints what so ever). Is it just me? I feel left out in the cold, bamboozled if you will. I bought Ableton live suite 8 and an APC 40 controller rocked my sets @ a few gigs. Now I have Serato DJ I'm a dinosaur already? No compatibility? What give? No love for loyal customers? I still have my SL1 love the sound and flexibility on my SL4 will be buried with my TTM's (yes boys and girls ) Mark I & II. Considering S9 to soon to tell. Okay I'm ranting..... that's my two cents.........

Hey guys
As Serato DJ 1.8 is now out the door, it's probably best to put any feedback you have on tempo matching in the feature suggestion area. The products team keep an eye on this area and are always keen to gather feedback.
Luis.S has started a thread on this feature already; serato.com so it would be as good a place as any to to say your piece.
Thanks, Aaron

I'm talking about the tempo line up. Does anyone know why they took it and if they will put it back in. For now I deleted and went back to 1.7.8.

It's gone forever and wont be added back in as far as serato as said so far. Very few people used it. And I for one and happier to have the extra space in the UI for more valuable things.

If your tracks weren't spot on with your bpm it was a nice tool to use for visual confirmation.

Why wouldn't they be. I play pretty much everything and Serato nails it 99.9% of the time. But even so, why not just look at the waveforms, they give you the same information and more?
DJcwilly
5:24 AM - 3 November, 2015
No actually they don't. Waves don't tell you when your tempos are lined up. Especially if your using tables. If they drift it will show up right away. I was just reading another form about it. A lot of people are saying they want it back but if serato took it out just make it an option so people can decide on there own to use it or not. As for the 99.9 that's not 100 and some tracks like transition ones have different bpms. Now you can go into the beat grid and change that but that's time I don't want to waste when I could just adjust on the fly.

SDJ has an option for 2 decimal places in the BPM display which is one of the reasons the tempo match display was removed.

I fail to see how adding two decimals would be a reason to remove the tempo display. The two decimals do not show up when using turntables and it actually makes it worse. I always go back to ssl bc of that. The tempo display actually helps if you hear something is off and need to make that quick adjustment while loading another track plus doing a long mix over three tracks. All I'm saying is there are some people that never use it and I hear you. I glance at it here and there and I didn't notice it till I used 1.8 at a wedding where a tracks bpm was off and I heard it and wanted to make the quick adjustment while talking to someone so the visual would have been nice. During dinner I deleted 1.8 and went back to 1.7.8. I do like the key shifts but it's not ready to play out yet. Tracks freezing and speed ups jumps as well as audio cut outs. I just annoyed they took out something that is useful to myself and many others. Not everyone but there are enough that they could place it in as an option.

Hey AutoMATTictx,
Thats a pretty strange issue, I think the best bet would be to get in touch with support: support.serato.com - create a help ticket and provide them with your full specs, screenshots of the error and let them know the steps you have tried to get it fixed. They should be able to get you up and running soon.
Thanks,

As Serato DJ 1.8 is now out the door, it's probably best to put any feedback you have on tempo matching in the feature suggestion area. The products team keep an eye on this area and are always keen to gather feedback.
Luis.S has started a thread on this feature already; serato.com so it would be as good a place as any to to say your piece.
Thanks, Aaron
Feature suggestion for something that Serato removed. This is not like we are asking for a new feature. Just put the Tempo Matching Thingy back.
The normal way to do stuff is to conduct a transparent poll before removing essential features.
I'm on 1.7.8
I don't use "4 decks"
I don't use "sync on load"
I don't use the "2 decimal points"
I don't use "Key Matching"
I don't use so many features in Serato that were added on post the Scratch Live Era, but i ve never complained or ask why such features were added.
Its like Serato wants every one to DJ the same way. Peoples work flow are different.
Some Beat-match by ear, others use sync, others the wave whilst i use a combo of everything including Tempo Matching Display.
Some comments here mentioned about how its "good riddance" "and they have more real estate" etc, can i ask what you want Serato to put in that tiny space vacated?

I don't use so many features in Serato that were added on post the Scratch Live Era, but i ve never complained or ask why such features were added.
Its like Serato wants every one to DJ the same way. Peoples work flow are different.
Some Beat-match by ear, others use sync, others the wave whilst i use a combo of everything including Tempo Matching Display.
Some comments here mentioned about how its "good riddance" "and they have more real estate" etc, can i ask what you want Serato to put in that tiny space vacated?
I agree too 100% to all

I am getting rather annoyed with these posts, I started DJing 20 years ago on two belt drive decks and a bad mixer, after a few years I bought 2 1210's and a pioneer mixer and my DJing was so much better, then played out for years. 5 years ago I took the step into Digital DJing and after a lot of research found that Serato Live was the closest thing I could find to be like playing on real decks. The 1.8 version of DJ is absolutely awesome, I don't need wave forms, just my ears, but the instant way this works is so much like playing on real decks, if you can't beat match or key match with your ears, then get a grip and love these people for giving us this, rant over!

Since this doesn't affect you in anyway you should be happy and there is no need for the "rant" 😉
Just be happy that Serato DJ as it is now is the way you want it to be until they remove something that is important to you.
Maybe the +/- pitch bending button is the next thing on the way out as there is a pitch slider and most people have jog wheels to nudge yeah.
It's about workflow. This is not a toy, people earn a living using this software solution. I used the 1.8 extensively to see if I'm actually overreacting, but it just ain't right for me without the Tempo thing.
It's a professional software for professionals and amateurs and I believe the opinions of the loyal customers should be sought before removing what's already present.
I don't mind the incessant addition of new features which I may or may not use, but to remove what many are used to is bordering on a paternalistic approach by Serato.
A suggestion is that Serato should have polls of new features being considered and old features they are looking at axing.
I will be okay if they make it an option.

After upgrading to 1.8 I have noticed that when using the load button on my DDJ-SX it pulls up the wrong track, if I click it twice it will pull up the track thats currently playing on the opposite side. I have to manually select the track using my Macbook and then click the load button (rather than using the controller knob and button) for it to actually load the correct track.
Any help with this would be great thanks!

No this release will not officially support Mac OS X El Capitan. We're currently working together with our hardware partners to investigate the connection and audio issues being reported so these can be resolved for another upcoming Serato DJ release.

Expect 6 months. It should be way less but OS updates should never be done as soon as they come out. It takes time for Apple and software company's to work out all the compatibility issues.

We're hoping to announce support as soon as we can, but Code:E is correct, it can take time.
Especially with this particular OS release because the main issues with it directly affect audio processing.
We'll let you all know as soon as we have something.
Thanks, Aaron

It was not BPM grid, but TEMPO MATCH DISPLAY and was replaced by KEY DETECTION NOTE. Check in individual decks the KEY DISPLAY now!
If yours musics have not been pre-analyzed, SDJ only show to you TIME and BPM when you load musics on the decks.

Hello
I haven't analyzed my tracks with serato dj but i can see keys as if it is already analyzed (until today i used Mixed in Key).
That means Serato DJ new key option detect the keys from another analyzer softwares?
And aslo, that if i dont want to deletet this metadatadas i don't have to selct the Set Key option in Analysis Settings?
I am correct?
Thanks!!
Nice uptadate but also think about these easy features:
- authomatic fade in/out (useful when you just play an authomatic playlist)
- erase the blue mark color of a track played (not all the library, just selected tracks),
- panoramic audio option,

You can view the original tags for the files that were analyzed with MIK by going to the Setup menu, then Library + Display, then the box that says Show Key As. Select Original Tag. To answer your second question, yes.

Hi dj-fozzy, are you having an issue with audio drop outs or just visual glitches/slow graphics performance? There is a known issue with the waveforms stuttering a little more on some higher spec Mac computers and hardware configurations. We are looking into this and hopefully can equal out graphics performance across all configurations in an future update. If you are having audio issues please contact our Support Team and we will try to see what is causing the problem.

Hi DJ Surda, yes Serato DJ can see Key tags written by other software (Mixed In Key). You can change the key display options in the SETUP screen of Serato DJ. If you choose "Original Tag", it will only show the tag that was on the song file before Serato DJ analyzed it. Hope this helps!
If you do use Mixed In Key to get your songs key, make sure you deselect the "Set Key" option in the Analysis Settings menu before analysing with Serato DJ - otherwise your key tag will be rewritten.
Hi DJ D'cue, yes Serato DJ 1.8 is compatible with the Numark NS7 and Mac OS X (however the latest operating system version, El Capitan, is not currently supported. We hope to offer El Capitan support soon! Please make sure you are on a supported OS serato.com)

Serato DJ 1.8
With 1.8 only just becoming public a few weeks ago, this is easily the newest key detection algorithm in the industry. We were impressed at a strong initial showing from Serato in this roundup. With the addition of the Pitch’n’Time DJ key shifting in 1.8, Serato have a major win for harmonic mixing DJs on their hands.
Major/Minor Triad Test: 67% – eight incorrect.
# of correct tracks (vs human volunteer consensus): 46 (70% correct)
# of Major / Minor misreads: Only 1 – this doesn’t seem to be an issue for Serato DJ

Hi dj-fozzy, we are currently working on El Capitan support, but you are having any issues with 1.8 and a supported operating system I suggest you get in touch with Support as they will be able to help troubleshoot your issue!
If you have blank menus in Serato Video, you might need to remove your Serato Video preference files in Macintosh HD > System > Library > Extensions. Remove any Serato Video related .kext files. Then restart your computer and reinstall Serato DJ again - this should reinstall the .kext files again and might resolve your issue.
Hope this helps!

Are you talking about having the ability to do a 'secondary sort' i.e. sort by BPM, then have the BPM sort remain while sorting by key etc? If so, I'm afraid we have never had this functionality in our library system. It's a really cool idea and something we would like to bring in though.
Definitely open a help request with the support team about the 'speeding up' if you haven't already. You can get in touch here: support.serato.com
Being able to record the MIC input is hardware dependent and due to the mix architecture of the MC2000, recording the MIC is not possible. Your best bet would be to run the master out to your laptop and record using a third party app like audacity. Check this article for how to get it done: support.serato.com
El Capitan is now supported in Serato DJ 1.8, but it is very dependent on which hardware you are using. Read this article for more detail: support.serato.com

BUT since i've installed the 1.8 i've a problem with arranging my tracks in the library crates, i only can arrange them by 1 way either by bpm, or name, or tracks number !!!! any solution that can help me to arrange my crates as it used to be b4????
actually i am an open format dj so for my hip hop crates i arrange them by bpm but for the house tracks i arrange them in alphabet order from A to Z,,, once i installed the 1.8 when i arrange by bpm i see all the crates automatically are arranged in bpm, same thing when i arrange with alphabet, i see all the crates are arranged the same.... is there a solution to arrange each crate as i want, either by key, bpm , or alphabet ????
thank you
Are you talking about having the ability to do a 'secondary sort' i.e. sort by BPM, then have the BPM sort remain while sorting by key etc?

Ah cool, I see what you're saying now medoz
To get this done, you just need to go into Setup > Library + Display and select 'Custom Crate Columns'. This will allow you to have different sorting preferences for different crates.
I'm not sure why this changed for you when you installed SDJ 1.8 - your preferences file must have been reset somehow.
Cheers, Aaron

Thumps up to this key detection feature, goodbye Mixed In Key.
KEY DETECTION ON MP4 files would be greatly appreciated. DJing is advancing and VJing is becoming more and more popular. My whole music library is turning into mp4 coz am adding custom visuals to tracks and the link feature does not sync video sequence to the music accurately, so pre rendered mp4 files are the best to maintain video sync and stability while scratching videos... PLEASE!!!! Serato, give us key detection on mp4 files or better yet on all file types that play in Serato DJ.

Hi boba, yes that's right :)
With Pitch 'n Time DJ you can now Key Shift up/down and also Key Sync to automatically match the key on other decks. When using Key Sync it will sync to the nearest compatible key available (it won't always be a direct match).
Hope this helps!

Hello All,
Class compliant Numark DJ controllers should have no issue connecting to Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan and are supported.
As a reminder, we do not recommend updating to OS X 10.11 El Capitan until your Numark product is listed as compatible from this article - www.numark.com
As for our older Numark products that require a driver download, Numark is currently testing out the latest El Capitan drivers for your Numark controllers. Now that all that current Numark products are supported, NS6 support is currently our top priority then followed closely by the NS7, 4TRAK and V7, based most importantly on the number of users out there. We're currently active in our third round of testing.
As always, as soon as the driver is ready, we will post the driver on the appropriate product pages.
Thanks!

Hi Aaron,
I haven't used the bridge before or Scratch Live but what I have seen about it I Like. It would be a GREAT feature to add to Serato DJ and I see a lot people do want it as well.
Sooner than later would better!!!

Hello DJ Oli,
Thanks for the post! We can certainly help you out! If you can headphone cue properly in Serato DJ Intro, you can headphone cue in Serato DJ. That wouldn't change. Are you using the 1st generation Mixtrack Pro? If so, to properly headphone cue with the Mixtrack Pro, you'll need to connect powered speakers to your RCA Master Output. Make sure you're hitting the CUE button on the deck that you wish to hear in your headphones. Turn your CUE MIX knob all the way to the left.
If you are using a Windows computer and your hardware doesn't connect then you should:
1. Close all applications
2. Navigate to Start Menu> Control Panel > Sound
3. Select your computer's internal soundcard or speakers as the default Playback device
4. Select your computer's internal soundcard or microphone as the default Recording device
5. Check the Communications tab to see if you need to set the internal soundcard as the default device. (this is not always necessary, as with some Windows versions there is no option to set a device in this tab)
6. Open your Serato software and try to connect your hardware once more
For any FUTURE hardware related questions like this one, please post on our Numark Forum to help you out - community.numark.com. Thanks!

For Me?? Pitch 'n Time / Key Shifting, was the Ultimate Tools in Serato DJ. It's Perfect to Match or to Blend music or videos with the same identities but with Different Key-Tones. Resulting to the Excellent Live Remixed, using Serato DJ with Pitch 'N Time. :)
