Serato DJ 1.8 blank screen
DJ Rodney S.
4:06 PM - 29 October, 2015
Hey everyone, I installed 1.8 twice thinking there was an error with the installation the first time. The download was slow as expected due to high traffic but slower than other updates. However both times I got a blank (black) screen on my Mac when I try to open Serato DJ. Then to get out of it, I have to hold down my power button to restart/shut down. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, have you resolved it & how?

i'm getting the blank black screen ,everytime i open 1.8..last about ten seconds for me.then serato comes on..using windows 8..first time i;ve seen this happen with serato
DJ Rodney S.
4:21 PM - 29 October, 2015
@soul63 strange. I let mine sit for quite a few minutes but nothing happened.

i downloaded the file from fb when the site was down..dont know if its the same file put up on here later?i presume so?
DJ Rodney S.
4:30 PM - 29 October, 2015
@soul63 I would assume it is. I opened Serato 1.7.8 & had it check for the newest version from the software itself.

I had that happen at first as well. But the files finally came up after like a minute. Other users have experienced this with Windows too. I'm not sure what the cause is. Seems like they rushed this version out in time for the Pioneer S9 support...Don't quote me on that
DJ Rodney S.
4:37 PM - 29 October, 2015
QDJ Tecniq ok. I'm going to go home for lunch, open it & let it sit again for a bit. If that doesn't work & I don't hear back from Serato with a resolution I have to go back to 1.7.8

Yeah I wish i had an answer. I heard this new version uses a completely new gui technology and some users will need to update their graphics cards in order to even get anything to play.

Well it's not happening on my end and I'm using a mac thank god. That is so weird. I'm on 10.10.5 yosemite what OS X are you using?

@DJ Tecniq oh wow. I hope that's not a widespread case

@DJ Tecniq I'm on 10.10.4 I believe. I refused to go to El Capitan until Serato gave the go ahead.

7:55 PM - 29 October, 2015
I am on 10.10.5 Yosemite still so you still have updates. No I do not recommend El Capitan. But it can't hurt to try to update the latest yosemite it may fix your issue although I'm not certain. I just hope you can get success using 1.8 finally.

Try opening explorer wit win key+e or alt tab, that helped me sometimes but sometimes I could see just half of screen.

I found through another discussion that video card drivers need to be updated for SDJ 1.8. When I get a chance I'm going to try that. In the meantime I went back to 1.7.8.

How exactly do we update our video cards on mac? I thought that's what OS X updates were for anyways. If that isn't the case then I need to know how lol..

The only video updates you need on a MacBook Pro come through normal App Store OS X updates.
DJ Rodney S.
1:13 PM - 30 October, 2015
@popnwave ok, good to know, thanks. So I just check the App Store & won't have to go to El Capitan? My computer asked me to upgrade to it recently which I denied.

Yeah the El Cap thing is like the nag I get from Microsoft to upgrade my old PC server to Win10!
But outside of the normal UPDATE pop ups you might get, you can ignore the El Cap one.

@SuperK here's how I got mine to work. Hopefully it works for you too:
*I reverted back to 1.7.8 (downloaded it again from Serato.com's archive section)
*deleted the downloaded 1.8 file
*went back to Serato.com's site
*downloaded 1.8 again & it works fine now.
May have been an issue with the original file on Serato's site.

It shouldn't be a driver issue if you're on a recent Mac OS and a fairly recent computer. DJ Rodney S did the smart thing by trying a reinstall imo.

Hello everyone and especially the support team Serato . I'm instability problems in Serato 1.8 for Windows. The point is that when opening Serato for the first time , so I start Windows, it even works properly, but when closing and opening again , I realize that there are two serato.exe in the task manager . What aprece me , there must be some kind of service Serato that is not properly closed , which is causing problems to close the application that in turn remains locked until forced the same encerramente necessary.

Here is where you can check for the newest drivers:
Intel - www.intel.com
AMD - support.amd.com
NVidia - www.nvidia.co.uk
Also make sure you have "Enable Desktop Composition" ticked here is a screenshot how todo it.
i190.photobucket.com
Just need togo to Computer then system at top left.
Once all drivers updated and that option checked try open Sdj.

The only time that I have that issue with osx is when I put sdj in full screen mode using the green button (maximize) on the top left hand side. the issue is rectified when I switch to another "space" then come back to the one that sdj is on.

There's a known issue but there doesn't appear to be a fix for it which is very discouraging. I have had to reinstall version 1.7.8 in order to continue using Serato DJ.

Iv seen some users having to make sure it's the Intel graphics being used not the amd or nvidi.

I had the problem with on board Intel HD Graphics on my HP Win 7 laptop. Screen did not draw, but I could see one or 2 controls that were working when clicked. Even though both Device Manager and Windows Update told me there were no new drivers, there were and it fixed it.
I used Intel's driver update app first and that gave me 2 updates:

Anyone have any luck with this? I also downloaded DJ Intro and it works fine. Full screen shows up and the tracks play in offline mode.

I have already opened a ticket #143635 and the answers have been :
- upgrade drivers if possible
- stay with a <1.8 version
I don't want to be rude but honestly, did I really need to open a support ticket to have this kind of answers ?
I would prefer to have a dev or a tech explaining me that the new library you are using to improve graphic performances doesn't support those older hardware and that you will be looking into but is not on top of the 'to do' list (what I can understand).
May be if we couldn't have some tech inputs we could understand what's wrong or make a hack.
opengl ?
direct3D ?
minimum vram size ?

From my understanding SDJ does not support Intel CoreDuo machines anymore it has to be an i3, i5 or i7 processor. Early versions before 1.8 supported these processors. Not anymore unfortunately. However Scratchlive will have no problem running these machines. SDJ is a CPU hog💯
