I am looking for speakers that will accommodate +400 people indoor/outdoor

Jarren Bernitz 9:03 PM - 2 November, 2017
So I am starting to gain more business now through parties and functions but I need speakers that will accomodate +400 people indoor/outdoor that will have no problem even reaching the last person at the back of a hall or a garden and will have clear sound that will be loud enough to fill an entire hall or outside venue.I am interested in the JBL Eon 515xts or the JBL Eon g2's but it seems like the specs on those speakers are underrated.I really need some insight on this situation.Any advice will be appreciated.

I think you really need to rethink your expectations. Eons will not come anywhere close to a 400+ person party let alone outdoors.

You need to be looking at JBL SRX/EV ETX level gear if not higher and those will not "have no problem reaching the last person at the back."

For that, you'll want line array type speakers.

JBL VRX would work, but you'd want at least 4 tops and probably 6 subs fo. The tops are about $2600 apiece and the subs are $2000 apiece so I hope you weren't exepecting that kind of coverage for the cost of 4 beginner speakers like Eons.

Other array type systems would be the QSC KLA series, the RCF HLA or NX series, or db Technologies DVA series if you want to save some money.

I would say for the buck and size the most bang you get is probably with QSC self powered K or KW series speakers. The k12s I have are the older 1000 watt models and they bump small to mid sized venues of that size with no problem, They made me turn them down when I did an outdoor event saying the cops said they were going far beyond the area allowed. I pair them with a set of 18" Subs and they are good for larger venues as well. Beyond that you need to then move to Array speakers either powered or with separate amplifiers.

PS: QSC now makes these with a 2000 watt amp and speakers capable of handling that and I currently just turn up my speakers to level 2 3 or 4 out of 12 or 16 or something like that so they have way more left in em LOL so I can only imagine the 2000 watt versions

Thank you all for your advise.I live in South Africa so most of those brands cost more than $2000 which is out of my price range. Are there any speakers that cost $1000 altogether ?.(it's 13.98 rand to the dollar so that's how much I would need to pay)

No way the K Series speakers is going to handle 400 people outdoors where everyone gets the same level.

You have to check your expectations or realize that what you're trying to accomplish is simply not possible at your budget.

Start small, two pairs of eons will maybe do 200 people are moderate levels and it certainly won't carry further than the immediate dancefloor.

I have been using a pair of kw181 and a pair of kw152 even st events with over 500-800 guest

That is not going to reach the last person at the back with no problems - especially outdoors.

I get that some people have different expectations, but I personally wouldn't use that setup for more than 300 in a wedding style environment where not everyone is expected to dance.

I understand what you guys are saying but what speakers would you recommend that cost $1000 altogether that would suit both indoor and outdoor venues ?

You're going to have to spend more than $1000 to get a quality set of speakers that will last you. Def check out the new QSC K.2 series however an original pair of K12's will be just fine. Here's a good review of the new edition youtu.be

There is NOTHING on the market for your price range to reach that many people.

nothing.

raise you budget or lower your expectations.

The only way I can see you ever doing that size with that budget is getting lucky on the used market. Likely it will be amps and passive speakers as people seem to be dumping those for powered speakers...

But used gear can be a crap shoot if you don't know how to evaluate used PA gear.
